Main purpose of job To undertake general maintenance, gardening and security duties as directed on the school premises both internally and externally. Responsibilities and Accountabilities School Cleaning Undertake cleaning duties as determined by the Site Manager. Ensure manufacturers and COSHH regulations are complied with in the mixing, use and storage of cleaning materials. Ensure materials and equipment are returned to appropriate storage areas after use. Ensure removal of waste to appropriate disposal points. Deliveries/Post Take delivery of post, stores, material and other goods and assist in the unpacking and storage of these items. Manual Handling Duties and Furniture Moving Assist with any manual handling tasks including on occasions the movement of furniture, adhering at all times to our health and safety policy and manual handling guidance. Energy Conservation Read, record and report all meter readings as required by the Site Manager, and report any concerns to the Site Manager. Emergencies Clean sickness and spillages as required. Deal with all bursts, leaks, floods, fires and breakages as appropriate and as soon as the problem is discovered. This may involve contacting professional tradesman. Deal with all electrical and gas emergencies, making safe initially by turning off supply. This will involve contacting professional tradesman. Ensure access for emergency services, assist as necessary, secure premises as required. Adhere to guidance in the School’s Emergency Management Plan Internal Maintenance Report all defects which require specialist repair to the Site Manager or Business Manager. Check electrical fittings and report defects as required. Replace lamps and domestic fuses as required. Synchronise clocks, time switches, school bells, etc, as required. Undertake minor repairs to fixtures and fittings including desks, tables, chairs, basic plumbing as appropriate. Redecoration of any school area, agreed as reasonable on instruction from the Site Manager Business Manager. Replenish stock as required. Remove graffiti, as required. Carry out minor works in order to improve the site as required by the Site Manager / Business Manager. Attend appropriate training courses as required by the school. Replenishing stock throughout the school. External Maintenance Maintain cleanliness and general tidiness of all external areas; empty litter bins on a daily basis, light gardening duties and ensure the bin store is kept clean and tidy. Clean and clear all drains, waste pipes and gullies to ensure effective and healthy operation. Check outside fabric of school, report/repair defects as appropriate. Check all fences, gates, walls, steps, lights, etc. Report/repair defects as appropriate. Keep entrance to the school clean and clear of obstructions at all times. Clear leaves, snow, ice, moss and detritus as appropriate, including treatment of surfaces with salt, etc. Check all outside areas for dangerous materials and remove as appropriate Carry out internal window cleaning where required. Other Specific Duties To act as a key holder to the school site. Undertake basic record keeping as required. Undertake other duties, consistent with the post and job description, as may be required from time to time by the Site Manager, Business Manager or Head Teacher. Cover for the Site Manager in their absence including the opening and closing of the school premises for the purpose of school use, lettings, out of school hours functions, maintenance and emergency services. Maintain an Assistant Caretaker’s diary and repair book. Health and Safety Site staff have a duty of care towards the staff, pupils and visitors of the school. To understand and meet the responsibilities as set out in the latest Keeping Children Safe in Education Part One. To engage in and complete all training in regards to safeguarding and ensure school policy and practice is followed.
