The apprenticeship Initiative
Darke & Taylor has been engaged with apprenticeship schemes for over 40 years and during this time has offered jobs and training to in excess of 350 young school leavers looking to develop careers in the built environment. The company has a workforce of in excess of 150 people, of which over 30 are currently undertaking an apprenticeship or adult traineeship studying to become electricians, fire & security engineers, business administrators and ICT specialists.
That’s over 20% of the workforce engaged in the apprenticeship initiative, a big commitment on behalf of the company and way ahead of the national average for our industry and the economy in general.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The successful applicant will attend college over a 4 year period on a day release basis to achieve a BTEC level 3 national diploma and Higher national certificate in building services. The role includes issuing enquiries to sub-contractors, measuring from drawings, computing quantities of material, plant and equipment whilst learning all aspects of mechanical services including heating, plumbing, ventilation and air conditioning.
KEY DUTIES:
* Issue enquiries to sub-contractors and suppliers.
* Follow up on all outstanding quotations.
* Review tender documentation including drawings and specifications.
* Measure pipework quantities from drawings.
* Create a bill of materials to produce an accurate tender using in house pricing software.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
* Methodical.
* Good time management and organisational skills.
* Good verbal and written communication skills.
* Willingness and capability to learn and develop.
* A good team player.
