About LAS
Literature Alliance Scotland [LAS] is a membership network bringing together writers, publishers, librarians, literature organisations and national cultural bodies. LAS was formed in spring 2015 as successor to the Literature Forum for Scotland. In 2006, the Literature Forum was formally recognised as a national Advisory Council for Literature. In mid-2014, Literature Forum members decided to review the organisation’s future role and to consider how it should develop to become a stronger and more inclusive voice for literature and languages in Scotland and abroad. The 2023-24 programme of work, Building Sustainability, draws on the recommendations set out in the LAS Organisational Review. Funding is now in place for a programme of work for delivery between winter 2024 and spring 2026.
Current situation
Literature Alliance Scotland operates in a complex context. Both arts funding and industry practices present challenges at the present time, and funding and income streams for writers and freelance workers are in an ongoing crisis. There is a clear requirement for a strong voice for the literature sector, and we recognise that LAS requires development to ensure it is effective as a key advocacy structure for a sector in crisis.
The Project
Literature Alliance Scotland seeks an individual to help reposition LAS and ensure its sustainability for the future. You will support them to work with the membership and wider sector to understand how best to deliver value. You will work with Literature Alliance Scotland trustees to ensure the organisation is properly constituted and resources are in place to support delivery against the sector’s aspirations.

• Manage the implementation process
• Carry out information gathering and mapping to ensure LAS’s grasp of the sector remains secure
• Manage programmes as relevant
• Direct delivery of facilitation/cascaded training, individual support, and networking
• Fundseeking for future programmes.
