Fire Stop Inspector Job Specification Position Title: Fire Stop Inspector Location: MOD Project Site based Job Type: Full-Time, 12 month ongoing contract IR35: Outside Introduction: We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Fire Stop Inspector to join our team on a prestigious MOD project. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the effective installation, inspection, and maintenance of firestopping systems to meet stringent fire safety standards. The Fire Stop Inspector will play a critical role in preventing the spread of fire and smoke within the building by ensuring that firestopping materials and systems are installed correctly and comply with relevant safety codes and regulations. Key Responsibilities: Inspection of Firestopping Systems: Conduct detailed inspections of firestopping materials installed within walls, floors, ceilings, and around penetrations. Ensure that all firestop systems meet fire safety standards and comply with local building codes and regulations. Installation and Maintenance Oversight: Monitor and oversee the proper installation of firestop systems, ensuring that fire-resistant barriers are sealed correctly to prevent the spread of fire and smoke. Provide guidance and support for installation teams to guarantee compliance with firestopping requirements. Compliance Verification: Ensure that all firestop systems are in compliance with fire safety codes, including regulations related to fire resistance ratings, smoke containment, and fire-resistant sealant specifications. Ensure that materials used in installations are certified and meet the necessary fire safety standards. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of inspections, material approvals, and installation procedures. Prepare detailed inspection reports that outline any discrepancies or non-compliance issues and provide recommendations for corrective actions. Coordination with Project Teams: Work closely with project managers, contractors, and safety officers to ensure firestop systems are correctly integrated into the building's overall fire safety strategy. Attend project meetings to stay informed of any changes that may affect firestopping requirements. Quality Control: Review and verify that all firestop products, including intumescent sealants, fire-resistant caulk, foam, pillows, and wraps, meet the required quality and performance standards. Conduct regular quality checks on materials and installations to ensure high safety standards. Training and Guidance: Provide training and support to other personnel on firestopping installation practices, fire safety regulations, and the proper use of fire-resistant materials. Promote best practices in fire safety and installation methods across the team. Skills & Qualifications: Experience: At least 8 years of experience in firestop inspection, installation, or fire safety management within the construction industry. Experience working on large-scale projects, preferably in a military, commercial, or high-risk environment, is desirable. Knowledge: A strong understanding of firestopping systems, fire-resistant materials, and fire safety regulations (including relevant British Standards and the latest fire safety codes). Certifications: Certification in Firestopping Inspection (e.g., FSRT – Firestop Specialist, or equivalent) is preferred. Additional fire safety certifications (e.g., NEBOSH Fire Safety) will be considered an advantage. Attention to Detail: Excellent ability to assess the quality of firestop installations, ensuring precise adherence to specifications and standards. Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare detailed reports and communicate effectively with colleagues and external stakeholders. Problem-Solving: Ability to identify issues or non-compliance in firestopping installations and propose timely and effective solutions. Safety-Conscious: Strong commitment to safety and the ability to work within health and safety guidelines while promoting a safety-first culture on-site. Desirable: Experience working on MOD projects or similar high-security environments.
