An exciting opportunity has arisen in The Rare Dementia Service for a Senior Occupational Therapist who is passionate and highly motivated to work with people with a rare dementia in a community setting. This is a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic, creative and imaginative individual to adapt and deliver high quality Occupational therapy within a well-established and supportive multidisciplinary team and to make a significant difference to the lives of people with a diagnosis of a rare dementia and their carers and families.
Main duties of the job
1. To manage a defined caseload of clients with complex needs, using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in a range of settings.
2. To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of occupational therapy services within a designated service/team, holding responsibility for defined projects.
3. To regularly supervise occupational therapy students on placement.
4. To provide leadership for junior staff through supervision and appraisal.
5. To contribute to the maintenance and development of the Trust occupational therapy service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. To work effectively as a member of a team in providing a programme of unit/domiciliary/community based interventions.
2. To select and apply occupational therapy assessments for a defined caseload of service users with complex needs, addressing occupational performance and skill deficits, enabling the client in areas of self-maintenance, productivity and leisure.
3. To contribute specialist occupational therapy assessment to service users referred to the Rare Dementia Service.
4. To plan and implement individual and/or group occupational therapy interventions, in collaboration with the service users to achieve their occupational goals.
5. To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment for service users with multiple needs in order to measure outcomes and ensure effectiveness of interventions.
6. To be responsible for implementation, evaluation and modification of occupational therapy/team interventions.
7. To demonstrate and apply a high level of understanding of the effect of disability and provide training and advice on lifestyle changes and adaptations to the service user’s physical and social environment.
8. To assess for clinical risk and apply this in practice.
9. To undertake delegated tasks to contribute to/be responsible for the safe and smooth running of the Occupational Therapy service.
10. To provide care co-ordination to designated service users with occupational needs.

Essential criteria
* BSc in Occupational Therapy
* Experience of working in mental health

* Experience in working in Dementia Care

Please note, if applicable for your role you will be required to cover the cost of your DBS certificate. This will be deducted from your salary over 3 months. You will also be required to sign up to the DBS Update Service before commencement with the Trust. The Trust will reimburse this. You will be contractually obliged to maintain your subscription.
All successful applicants will be required to complete the Trust’s induction programme. The Fundamental (Statutory and Mandatory) training will be in an e-learning format. You will be required to complete training modules online (approx. 9-14 hours depending on post) by the end of your second week with us.
