The opportunity has arisen for a Part time band 6 nurse to join the team of a busy Ophthalmology Pre-operative Assessment department at St Albans City Hospital.
The hours are 3x 8-4pm Monday to Friday.

Main duties of the job
The role of the band 6 nurse is to undertake pre-operative assessment of patients awaiting elective surgery across a wide range of specialities, ensuring patients are prepared physically & psychologically for surgery whilst minimising short notice cancellations.

Education and qualifications
Essential
1. Registered Nurse Part 1,2.
2. Training to undertake specific procedures within the remit of the role and assessment of competency in these procedures.
3. Demonstrates evidence of ongoing continuous professional development.
4. Teaching qualification recognised by NMC and proven ability to provide clinical education.
5. Post-registration qualification in speciality area.
Desirable
1. In possession of or willing to undertake relevant Nursing Degree.
Knowledge
Essential
1. Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice, particularly within specialty area and the application of this in practice.
2. Thorough understanding of equality & diversity and its application to managing self, staff, and patients within own area.
3. Membership of special interest and professional group.
4. Understanding of NMC Code of Practice and requirements of it for the practice & behaviour and its application to the management of staff and self.
5. Basic knowledge of using MS Windows Office applications and Excel.
