We are seeking to appoint a Lead Investigation and Enforcement Officer to join our Enforcement Team at CILEx Regulation.
This interesting and varied role is an excellent opportunity for an experienced investigator, paralegal, Chartered Legal Executive or SQE, LPC/ BPTC SQE graduate looking to progress their career and qualify as an authorised person under the Legal Services Act 2007.
Who are we?
CILEx Regulation is the independent regulator of members of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEX), including Chartered Legal Executive lawyers, paralegals and other legal professionals, and the regulator of choice for some law firms.
We set and maintain standards in legal education, in the work and services provided by those we regulate, as well as standards of professional conduct in to protect the public and maintain confidence in the profession.
Our regulation is proportionate, outcomes focused and targeted at the cases that pose the biggest risk. Fairness is at the heart of what we do.
This role sits within our enforcement function, which is responsible for ensuring that those we regulate comply with the standards of professional behaviour set out in the CILEX Code of Conduct (the Code).
As a key member of a small team, your day-to-day role will involve assessing, investigating and progressing your own caseload of reported breaches of the Code (misconduct cases). You will also oversee and manage cases involving self-declared conduct (prior conduct cases), which form the basis of our character and suitability assessments of those seeking to join and remain in the profession to ensure the efficient, reasoned, and risk-based disposal of cases.
You may be called as a witness, or be asked to represent or advocate on behalf of CILEx Regulation in disciplinary hearings. Advocacy training will be provided where required.
You will arrange panel meetings and training days, monitor and maintain databases, ensure adequate record-keeping and file maintenance, and assist in projects to develop and improve the enforcement function.
