We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Health and Safety Coordinator to support the delivery of a safe and healthy working environment across all council services. Working closely with the Health and Safety Manager and various departments, you will play a key role in coordinating health and safety initiatives, monitoring compliance, and ensuring the well-being of all employees and stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Assist in the implementation and maintenance of the council's Health and Safety Management System, ensuring compliance with legislation and internal policies. Support the development, review, and updating of risk assessments and safe systems of work across all council departments. Coordinate health and safety training, including maintaining records and ensuring staff are up to date with mandatory requirements. Conduct workplace inspections and audits, reporting findings and making recommendations for improvement. Support accident and incident investigations, ensuring accurate documentation and follow-up on corrective actions. Liaise with contractors and third parties to ensure compliance with the council's health and safety standards. Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on health and safety performance and compliance. Act as the first point of contact for health and safety queries, escalating issues as necessary. Qualifications and Skills Required NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent. IOSH Managing Safely or Technical Membership of IOSH (Tech IOSH) is desirable. Previous experience in a health and safety role, preferably in a local government or public sector setting. Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices. Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and health and safety management software.
