GSL Education are currently seeking a skilled Residential Support to join a well-established residential care facility in Gateshead. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children and young people and who has experience working in a residential care or support setting.
Role Overview:
As a Residential Support with GSL Education, you will play a pivotal role in supporting young individuals in their daily lives, helping them to achieve personal growth, develop essential life skills and overcome challenges. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the well-being of those who require additional support in a caring and professional setting.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide practical and emotional support to young people in a residential care setting.
* Assist with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation and household chores.
* Foster a safe, nurturing and supportive environment for young people, ensuring their well-being is maintained at all times.
* Help young individuals develop social, emotional and life skills that will support their future independence.
* Monitor the behaviour and progress of residents, providing guidance and positive reinforcement as needed.
* Act as a positive role model, promoting good behaviour, self-discipline and respect for others.
* Support young people with educational and extracurricular activities, helping them to engage in learning and personal development.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies to provide tailored support and meet the individual needs of each resident.
* Maintain accurate records of incidents, progress and activities in accordance with the home's policies and regulations.
* Ensure safeguarding procedures are adhered to and that all residents are treated with dignity and respect.
Key Requirements:
* Experience in a residential care or support setting, ideally with children and young adults.
* A compassionate and patient approach to working with vulnerable individuals.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with young people, families and colleagues.
* A proactive and flexible attitude, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
* Previous experience of supporting young people with challenging behaviours or additional needs is desirable.
* Relevant qualifications, such as NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare or equivalent, are preferred but not essential.
* A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
* Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
