This is a full-time substantive Consultant post (specialising in Lower limb arthroplasty and soft tissue knee Surgery) for Trauma and Orthopaedics at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University NHS Trust.
These consultant posts will be job planned to perform 10 programmed activities (PA) with the aim to help us improve the trauma and orthopaedics service that we provide to our population.
The successful candidates will be managing patient care in outpatient, fracture, and virtual fracture clinics, triaging and assisting in elective and trauma theatres. There will be opportunities to teach and support junior staff in the department across our sites.
The Consultant will be a key role within T& O at BHRUT and will be responsible for fast tracking patients through their diagnosis, initiating investigations, and providing management & treatment plans for patients presenting with orthopaedic issues. The post holder will also triage T& O patient referrals, improving decision-making in clinic or for admission/further referral management.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will have a broad experience in the management of Orthopaedic inpatients, Orthopaedic outpatients, and Trauma patients and will engage in all aspects of orthopaedic patient pathways. The appointee will be involved in developing the existing orthopaedic hip & knee services further and will provide full consultant in-patient, outpatient, and pre-assessment care for lower limb patients as well as trauma patients.
The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with colleagues and managers to develop pathways ensuring smooth and efficient pathways for our patients.
A regular programme of service and educational meetings underpins the service. There is a regular commitment to audit and teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The scale of the hospital permits an excellent degree of effective working relationships between hospital departments and Primary care.

Qualifications
Essential
* Full GMC Registration or post CCT within 6 months or equivalent qualifications e.g. CESR
* Excellent communication skills both verbal and written and excellent decision-making at consultant level
* General Training in Trauma and Orthopaedics surgery at Consultant level or equivalent
Desirable
* Experience in managing emergency trauma surgical skills
* National, International Fellowship training
* Commitment to and experience of teaching
