About the role
We are currently looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic Plant Manager to join our UK team based in Sheffield UK.
In this role, you'll be responsible for all elements of operations including: supply chain, production, quality, maintenance, facilities, CI, EHS and CX at the Sheffield Manufacturing site.
You will lead and inspire local departmental managers as well as the wider operations team to foster and create a culture of both sustainable and continuous improvement. This role is pivotal to enable the company to execute its operational strategy, continuous improvement plans and long-term growth strategy.
As the senior person on site you will have the ability to act independently and be a concise and decisive decision maker. You will have a strong background within a similar environment where you have successfully led and demonstrated leadership capability built on providing clear focus and direction.
Main responsibilities
In this role you'll:
* Ensure the best possible return and levels of service across Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery and Inventory.
* Ensure the correct operational structure and resource levels drive the requirements of the business.
* Seek out opportunities to deliver operational excellence initiatives and investments aimed at driving down cost whilst improving efficiencies and customer service.
* Lead, manage and motivate the operations team in the delivery of consistently high standards of safety, product quality, operational excellence, and customer service.
* Promote a safety first culture where everyone adheres to safe work practices & standard operating procedures.
* Develop and execute the manufacturing strategy to maximise operational effectiveness.
* Work closely with Commercial, Purchasing, Product Management and Quality team to ensure quick, pragmatic and lasting resolutions to any issues which may affect customer service and performance.
* Manage the development & delivery of CX & OPEX improvement initiatives.
* Inspire manufacturing teams to challenge existing processes and implement sound solutions.
* Ensure costs are minimised through the best possible utilisation of material, plant, equipment, staff and consumable purchases.
* Manage the planning and development of budget figures and investment plans, monitoring progress through the year.
Experience & qualifications
To be successful in this role you'll need:
* A degree in a Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering or equivalent
* A proven track record of leading & implementing improvement projects
* Knowledge of a wide variety of manufacturing processes & materials used throughout metal processing & fabrication industry.
* An excellent knowledge of implementing continuous improvement & operational excellence philosophies including lean and six sigma.
* A good knowledge of ERP and ideally SAP
* A developed awareness of and full commitment to the adherence of health and safety guidelines.
* Demonstrable Operations Management experience of running a successful high volume manufacturing operation.
* The ability to challenge conventional methodology and deliver new ways of working in a culture of continuous improvement.
* Demonstrable commercial awareness.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Excellent organisational leadership skills, with a desire to coach and build capability and instilling best practices across a team.
