Zero hours contract
Available to work at least 3 days a week during busy exam periods, especially in January, May and June
The Governing Body of this highly successful, partially selective, mixed school invites applications for the post of Exams Invigilator. Exams Invigilators play a crucial role in upholding the integrity and security of exams and the assessment process and must conduct exams in accordance with all the relevant rules and regulations. The role requires good attention to detail, flexibility with working hours and days and excellent time keeping and organisational skills. Good availability (minimum 3 days each week) during the busy exam periods each year is essential and completion of annual training (both online and in person) is required. We are particularly interested to hear from applicants whose skills would give them the confidence to invigilate students who are using computer equipment, act as a human reader and/or act as a scribe in a range of subjects for students with special exam access arrangements. Experience is not necessary, as full training will be provided.
The Exams Department organises and manages the internal and external exams and tests for KS4 and KS5. We follow regulations and guidance as laid out by the JCQ and awarding bodies to ensure that all the exams and tests are conducted to the highest standards and we pay particular attention to making sure that our learning support students are supported and provided with the additional exam support that they are eligible for. During the course of each academic year, we have a variety of different tasks to perform. We have periods of planning and preparation and key parts of the year when we are running exams and tests every day. The busy exam periods take place in November-December (normally 2-3 ad hoc weeks in total), January (2 back-to-back weeks as soon as term resumes) and throughout the summer term (April - June but particularly every week between early May and end June).
The department is made up of a full-time Exams Office and a full-time Assistant Exams Officer. Successful candidates would be joining a team of existing invigilators headed up by a number of experienced lead invigilators. You would be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the exams taking place in your exam room ensuring all the rules and regulations are adhered to by everyone and dealing with any issues as and when they arise. This may be in a small room on your own or in a large main exam room working as part of a big team.
