Job ID: 2942527 | Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc.
The Region Reliability Engineering team is transforming how Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) operates critical service workflows in restricted access partitions. Launched in April 2024, we are reimagining Service Operations through innovation, automation, and Operational Excellence. Our team is at the forefront of standardizing and improving critical workflows including credential rotations, host maintenance, deployments, and resource synthesis across ADC regions. We're focused on driving efficiencies through innovation while maintaining the highest standards of security and compliance in these sensitive environments.
A successful ADCE II joining our team will work closely with ADC Service Teams and commercial partners to ensure reliable service operations in restricted access environments. They will dive deeply into technical issues, drive automation initiatives, and work diligently to improve operational excellence. The ideal candidate will:
1. Be passionate about operational excellence. Our team believes in doing things right the first time and continuously improving. The right candidate will thrive on identifying and eliminating frequent manual tasks through automation and process improvement.
2. Have strong technical breadth with depth in key areas. The ideal candidate will have experience working across multiple AWS services and understand the unique requirements of ADC environments. You understand the architectures, interactions, and dependencies of services in your scope and can serve as a point of contact for a subset of these services.
3. Love solving complex problems. The ideal candidate will excel at diagnosing and resolving difficult technical issues, particularly those unique to ADC regions. You have strong troubleshooting skills and can determine appropriate mitigations while driving toward long-term solutions.
4. Think systematically. The ideal candidate will identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reliability across ADC operations. You will help define and implement standardized workflows that can scale across multiple regions and services.
This is an exciting opportunity to use the latest cloud computing technologies to help the U.S. Intelligence Community implement innovative cloud computing solutions and solve technical problems. We are building some of the largest and most complex distributed systems in the world, and we need adaptable people to help us implement and operate them.
This position requires that the candidate selected must currently possess and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph. The position further requires the candidate to opt into a commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.
Key job responsibilities
You are an autonomous contributor supporting operational workflows in ADC regions, meeting established SLA's while maintaining security and compliance requirements. You use your technical expertise to solve complex operational issues, working independently while knowing when to seek guidance or escalate. You understand ADC architectural differences and their operational implications, serving as a point of contact for services and workflows.
You create and maintain documentation, runbooks, and processes while reviewing others' contributions. You identify operational deficiencies in ADC implementations and investigate systemic patterns to determine appropriate mitigations. Your strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills are applied to resolve ADC-specific issues, leveraging your deep knowledge of AWS services and ADC requirements.
You maintain strict adherence to ADC security policies and help educate others on their importance. You communicate effectively with customers and partner teams, fostering constructive dialogue and driving toward professional resolutions aligned with ADC needs. You actively contribute to workflow improvements and automation initiatives, helping identify and eliminate frequent manual tasks.
You participate in mentoring junior engineers and contribute to the team's knowledge base, while influencing technical discussions around workflow optimization and prioritization. You're part of the on-call rotation, providing critical support from secure facilities while maintaining high standards of operational excellence.
A day in the life
Engineers in this role will work in secure facilities executing and improving standardized operational workflows. They will participate in daily stand-ups, collaborate with workflow owners and service teams, and contribute to automation initiatives. They will handle complex technical issues at scale while maintaining strict security and compliance standards. They will be key contributors to improving operational efficiency across ADC regions.
