Role Overview:
As a Teaching Assistant (TA), you will play a crucial role in supporting both teachers and students, ensuring that every learner has access to a high-quality and inclusive education. You will work with individuals and small groups, providing targeted assistance to students who require additional support, whether academically, socially, or emotionally.
Key Responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant (TA):
1. Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging lessons, ensuring students remain focused and supported.
2. Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with special educational needs (SEN), learning difficulties, or behavioural challenges.
3. Help manage classroom behaviour, promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.
4. Foster students' confidence, independence and communication skills, ensuring they feel valued and understood.
5. Assist in preparing learning materials and classroom resources to enhance lesson delivery.
6. Monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback and reporting concerns to the teacher or SENCO.
7. Support students in developing literacy, numeracy and social skills through tailored interventions.
8. Assist with extracurricular activities, school trips and pastoral care as required.
Requirements of the Teaching Assistant (TA):
1. Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or similar role is desirable.
2. A passion for working with young people and supporting their development.
3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students.
4. An understanding of SEN and behavioural needs with a patient and empathetic approach.
5. The ability to work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and other staff.
6. A minimum of GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent); additional qualifications in education or childcare are advantageous.
7. Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
