Ophthalmology Triage Administrative Support, Band 3 (secondment 4 month position)
The post holder will support the nurse practitioner in managing telephone referrals from GPs, Emergency Department, Minor Injury Units, optometrists and self-referring patients and help manage the referrals received on the Gloucestershire Emergency Eyecare Service inbox.

* Take an active role in auditing data from the telephone triage service, supporting continuous improvement.

Job responsibilities
* Support the nurse practitioner in managing telephone referrals from GPs, Emergency Department, Minor Injury Units, optometrists and self-referring patients.
* Manage the referrals received on the Gloucestershire Emergency Eyecare Service inbox.
* Actively participate as a key member of the multidisciplinary workforce.
* Work collaboratively and cohesively with the multidisciplinary team to meet the needs of patients and their families and provide high standards of care.
* Take a key role and support the implementation of any clinical initiative.
* Provide links between patients and other support networks through referrals.
* Work within agreed standard operational procedures.
* Support the nurse practitioner team in managing any patient, relative or staff complaints in line with the Trust complaints procedure.
* Work in a manner that makes best use of available resources and aim to reduce unnecessary waste from a financial and environmental perspective.
* Work collaboratively with community agencies involved in supporting patients with sight loss.
Person Specification
Experience
* Evidence of experience of working in Ophthalmology or relevant speciality.
* Evidence of building effective working relationships with members of the multi-disciplinary team.
* Experience of undertaking audit.
Skills and Abilities
* Excellent presentational, communication and interpersonal skills.
* Able to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety.
* IT skills and experience including Trak, Medisight, MS office and Trust intranet.
* Demonstrates understanding and commitment to good record keeping using the Trust electronic and paper methods.
