The University of Sheffield International College is seeking a Research Project Skills tutor to teach on our Pre-masters Research Project for STEM and Foundation Level Project Skills for STEM module.
The post holder will be part of the College’s Science Team.
ABOUT THE ROLE
1. The Research Project Skills tutor will be responsible for teaching Research Project for STEM, a level 6 module, and Project Skills for STEM, a Level 3 module, to groups of international students in classroom-based sessions. The teaching role includes marking assessments and the provision of feedback to students. The modules cover elements of Microsoft Excel data handling skills, MATLAB programming, research, presentation and project supervision. The pre-masters module additionally covers academic writing skills.
2. The successful candidate will be competent in the use of IT skills related to teaching, including the use of VLEs.
3. The post holder may also act as a module coordinator. This involves leading the teaching team, carrying out Quality Assurance procedures, and ensuring that teaching materials are up to date. The role also requires the creation of both formative and summative assessments.
4. The successful candidate will be able to work flexibly as part of a busy team, contribute to meetings, communicate effectively with colleagues, and work to deadlines.
ABOUT YOU
5. A Master’s or higher degree in an Engineering or Science related discipline.
6. Experience of teaching Science or Engineering or a related discipline at RQF level 4 or above (A-level/ Foundation level).
7. Experience of assessment marking at a minimum of RQF level 4 or above.
8. Working knowledge of MATLAB and Microsoft Excel.
9. A flexible and adaptable approach to work, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
10. Competence in teaching and administrative IT skills, using a Virtual Learning Environment (e.g. Blackboard)
