Job Description:
Exeter Rugby Club is seeking a passionate, hardworking, and dedicated Head Of Community to lead their Community Department.
The Community Chiefs, now into its 16th year, deliver a wide variety of national and local run programmes throughout the region, including rugby engagement, education, participation, inclusion, as well as health and wellbeing programmes.
Since it's inception back in 2008, the aim of the Exeter Chiefs Community Department has been to positively benefit the local area, specifically looking at benefiting every single person they work with.
This is done through various programmes, which sees the department work with and engage with over 10,000 people from local schools and colleges, clubs and groups every season.
The Head Of Community position requires a highly organised, driven and self-motivated individual capable of setting exemplary standards and leading teams effectively.
This role involves overseeing the whole Community department, running the day-to-day operations, managing the departments finances and seeking to continually drive the department forwards.
The Head of Community must set and abide by high standards, aligning with Exeter Chiefs' ethos of providing professional and premium services.
Key Responsibilities:
Heading Up Department
* The Head Of Community is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the department.
* Whilst ensuring the department is constantly seeking new opportunities to grow and develop.
Setting High Standards:
* Set and maintain high standards for the team.
* Pay attention to detail.
* Provide a working environment that promotes growth and challenge.
* Ensure Community projects are run to promote genuine benefit to their participants.
Department Finances and Legal:
* Set achievable annual budgets.
* Monitor income and expenditure monthly.
* Ensure the department works towards meeting its financial targets.
* Assess the commercial viability of initiatives.
* Work with the club's lawyer to ensure any project and school service level agreements, or facility hire agreements, are up to date and cover the club from both legal and commercial perspective.
Club Safeguarding:
* Act as Exeter Chiefs' Designated Safeguarding Officer.
* Ensure the club complies with Premiership Rugby's safeguarding minimum standards.
* Keep the club's safeguarding policy up to date and in line with necessary compliance.
* Organise monthly meetings with other club safeguarding leads and action points from those meetings.
* Ensure the club’s My Concern safeguarding reporting system is kept up to date.
Holiday Camps:
* Plan and oversee the annual Train Like A Chief camps using the club's ticketing system.
* Plan and oversee the August residential rugby camp using the club's ticketing system.
* Ensure camps meet forecasted budgets.
* Ensure appropriate part-time coaching staff are in place when needed.
* Market and advertise the camps effectively within the appropriate periods.
Bradfords Community Cup:
* Plan and oversee the annual Bradfords Community Cup.
* Ensure the two associated events are booked and prepared well in advance.
* Work with Bradfords Building Supplies to maintain and strengthen the partnership.
Community Delivery Timetable:
* Work with the Community Development Manager to plan the department’s annual timetable and ensure that all project key performance indicators (KPIs) are met by the end of the season.
Overseeing Staff:
* Ensure high-quality coaching and services are delivered.
* Conduct staff coaching evaluations every six months.
* Carry out annual staff appraisals.
* Organising staff holiday.
Programme Delivery:
* Occasionally, the Head of Community will assist in delivering community programmes. Meaning getting out of the office and getting stuck into delivering activity and educational based initiatives.
2025 Women’s World Cup Delivery:
* Engage with the RFU and local authorities in relation to the 2025 Women’s World Cup.
* Use existing community initiatives in Exeter to increase women’s rugby engagement and participation within schools and local clubs.
Community Vehicles:
* Oversee the department’s four vehicles, ensuring they are well-maintained.
* Ensure staff track fuel receipts and mileage.
Minimum Standards:
* Ensure the community department complies with Premiership Rugby’s specific minimum standards.
* Ensure staff have the necessary qualifications, checks, and certifications.
* Complete minimum standard reporting requirements on time.
Marketing:
* Work with the club's marketing team on a weekly basis to ensure the community department utilises the club’s media channels and website effectively.
* Help grow the Community Chiefs social media platforms by planning monthly content.
* Ensure the Community Department’s website remains professionally outlaid and up to date.
Community Corporate Partners:
* Maintain strong, professional relationships with the community department's corporate partners.
* Work to promote and grow corporate social responsibility (CSR) opportunities with businesses.
Men’s Match Day Experiences:
* Assist in the management of men’s match day experiences, particularly stadium tours, ensuring they are informative and engaging for those that attend.
Club Specific:
* Produce monthly reports for the club’s board meetings, detailing any key insights from staff and projects. While detailing any relevant information relating to the community department.
* Deliver talks and presentations on the community department to large audiences, promoting the great work the department does.
* Meet with the Chief Executive Officer when required
