Scope
The Hardware Architect is a key role for both current and future product development with a potential to lead and influence. The Hardware Architect works collaboratively with the Hardware Products Manager and multi-disciplinary team to ensure the design is based on existing products (building blocks) as much as practicable to capitalise on cost benefits, design efficiencies to reduce technical debt.
The role operates with world leading, cutting edge technology works within the team allocated to provide the architectural solution and ensure technical compliance of their work with the solution requirements and would be well suited to a Hardware, Electronics or Systems Engineering professional with a holistic approach / interest in Product concepts / development / integration work.
Responsibilities
Main tasks include:
Collaborating with the Engineering Manager who is responsible for the Hardware Engineering Management Plan, controlling, monitoring and coordinating all aspects of hardware product development lifecycle and removing any blockers within the hardware team.
Have a technical input to the Product Integration team to ensure that the throughput, performance, certification and compliance requirements are met.
Have a technical input to the Systems and Solutions orientation review with adjacent engineering teams and suppliers.
Work closely with the design engineers (following the DDQS methodology) in the Inspection, Analysis, Demonstration and Testing of the Inboard Hardware in line with Hardware Architecture Requirement and Hardware Development Plan.
Creating the Hardware Design Document, which fulfils the system requirement document.
Safeguarding the stability of hardware architecture throughout the lifecycle stages, from bid to delivery.
Directing and coordinating hardware architecture activities, approving the technological and methodological choices taken in respect of the selected hardware architecture.
Providing knowledge on state-of-the-art hardware architecting, taking account of future development of the products.
Required skills
8+ years experience and a Level 6 Qualification in an engineering related discipline (ie Bachelors degree in Electronics, Hardware or Systems).
Evidence of the ability to architecturally design a solution in line with requirements, including the ability to derive high level requirements (redundancy, remote deployment, safety integrity levels, functional integrity levels).
Proficient in Design for Cost and Design for Manufacture, with expertise in developing manufacturing specifications and facilitating the smooth transition to the production environment.
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross functional teams, including software engineers, hardware engineers, mechanical engineers and project managers to address issues, suggest improvements and ensure smooth product integration, verification, validation, qualification and certification.
Understanding and familiarity with the entire Engineering Product Development Lifecycle, encompassing all stages from the initial conception of a product to its completion (Capture, Design, Implementation, Test).
Desirable experience
Chartered Engineer.
System-level thinking & logical approach to problem solving.
Knowledge of Lean & Agile development techniques.
Model based solution design experience.
