To deliver scientific/ technical procedures previously performed by Biomedical Scientists, under the direction of the responsible Biomedical Scientist. In some areas may be working independently but usually as part of a team.
Performs a number of healthcare science clinical/ technical/ scientific activities, for example, performs standard laboratory tests and processes a range of different sample types e.g urine, swabs, wound drains, faeces and blood.
Maintains clinical records in relation to activities carried out and may input/ interrogate test results of others.
Will be required to supervise, organize and allocate work and/ or train less experienced staff in own area once trained and competent.
Processing diagnostic specimens.
To follow the standard operating procedures at all times and make suggestion for improvement to these documents.
Communicate authorised patient’s results accurately.
Operation of automated sample-processing equipment requiring regular physical effort.
Undertake complex laboratory testing .
Provide practical training in procedures within own area
Other duties as required by Section Managers.

To measure and monitor the accuracy and precision of laboratory investigations using appropriate quality control procedures and carry out corrective action when the quality control procedures indicate loss of performance

Safe disposal of laboratory waste.
To accept, unpack and store deliveries from suppliers when required
Provide practical training in procedures within own area for new staff.
Assist with the stock control in the molecular area of the laboratory. Enters details of received stock onto the laboratory data base which includes kit type, date of receipt, date of expiry and lot number. This may include the ordering of consumables and kits.
