Data is one of the enabling pillars of Bupa’s strategy and the effective management of privacy risk is key to the strength of this pillar. The BGIUK Privacy Team is recruiting a Legal Counsel- Privacy whose primary role will be to support the Head of Privacy in providing expert advice to our insurance businesses and ensuring effective governance of privacy risk across Bupa.
This role requires significant knowledge and experience of the key privacy and data protection issues impacting the insurance. The right candidate will be able to draw on a solid foundation of regulatory and privacy expertise, augmented by the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders. The right candidate will be highly commercial and business aware and able to place specific privacy and data protection issues within a wider commercial and regulatory context, and as part of an innovative digital transformation agenda.
You’ll help us make health happen through:
* Providing expert, commercially focused advice on a wide range of strategically important data privacy legal and compliance matters, including data processing agreements, data protection impact assessments, legitimate interest assessments and transfer risk assessments.
* Delivering work needed to meet requirements under the Privacy Oversight Control Framework.
* Where relevant, ensure key privacy risks or compliance issues are highlighted to relevant senior stakeholders and action plans are agreed.
* Influence and build strong relationships with key senior stakeholders including General Managers, Business Information Security Officers and Heads of Marketing, IT, Customer Services and Risk and Compliance.
* Evaluating potential personal data breaches and managing reporting obligations and subsequent investigations.
* Providing support to the BGUK Legal teams on complex data protection legal issues such as contract negotiations and litigation.
* Maintaining knowledge of applicable legal and regulatory requirements and monitoring to ensure organisational adaptation and compliance.
Key Skills needed for this role:
* A qualified solicitor with in-depth and extensive specialist knowledge of data protection laws and issues.
* Professional Privacy Certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPP/M) or equivalent (desirable).
* Experience of working in a regulated Insurance environment (desirable).
* Strong legal research skills.
* International privacy experience.
* Experience of reviewing complex data processing agreements and successfully negotiating to appropriately balance Bupa’s risk and commercial interests.
