An opportunity has arisen for a Head of accounts to oversee the client transactional and compliance side of the legal finance operations. This role will be reporting directly to compliance Officer for Finance and Administration (COFA) The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the accounts department, ensuring compliance with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Accounts Rules, and leading a team of accounts staff. This role plays a critical part in safeguarding the firm's financial integrity, working closely with the COFA, and supporting the firm’s broader regulatory and financial obligations. To be considered for this role you will have a strong knowledge of SRA Accounts Rules and their practical application and proven experience managing legal client accounts, including high-volume transactional work. You will have demonstrable leadership experience, with the ability to manage, mentor, and motivate a team. You will display excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex financial information clearly with high attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy. You will have the ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Key Responsibilities Client Transaction Management: Oversee all client money transactions, including payments, receipts, transfers, and reconciliations. Ensure that all client transactions are processed in full compliance with SRA Accounts Rules. Monitor and review client ledger balances, addressing discrepancies and queries efficiently. Maintain accurate financial records for clients and ensure that funds are held and disbursed correctly. Manage and oversee the relationship with the Cashroom. Manage the Policies and Protocols. SRA Accounts Rules Compliance: Lead the firm's compliance efforts with SRA Accounts Rules, staying up-to-date with changes and ensuring that all procedures meet regulatory standards. Review and implement best practices for handling client money to prevent breaches. Report any breaches or concerns to the COFA in a timely manner. Team Management: Manage a team of accounts and finance staff, setting objectives, providing regular feedback, and supporting professional development. Ensure the team is equipped to handle a high volume of transactions while maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance. Delegate tasks effectively, monitor team performance, and maintain a productive working environment. COFA Support: Support the COFA in overseeing financial compliance, providing reports and documentation as required. Assist with internal and external audits relating to the firm's financial activities, ensuring all records are accurate and up to date. Provide recommendations to the COFA on process improvements and risk mitigation strategies in relation to client money handling. Reporting & Financial Management: Prepare and present monthly financial reports to the COFA, outlining client account activity and any compliance issues. Work closely with the accounts and departments to ensure seamless collaboration on all financial matters. Develop, implement, and monitor internal financial controls and policies to ensure smooth financial operations within the accounts teams.
