Job summary
We are seeking a Consultant in Forensic Psychiatry to join our secure services at the Ashford Unit, Tatchbury Mount, delivering specialist psychiatric care within an adult low secure forensic unit. In this role, you will lead multi-disciplinary care, managing complex cases for adults with intellectual disabilities who have forensic histories. Working with an experienced team, you will perform thorough assessments, design bespoke treatment plans, and oversee risk management processes that support patient rehabilitation and safe reintegration. With a balanced focus on both clinical leadership and direct patient care, this role offers 5 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week, welcoming flexible working arrangements. Main duties, tasks & skills required
As a Consultant in Forensic Psychiatry at the Ashford Unit, you will manage the psychiatric care of adult patients with intellectual disabilities in a low secure forensic setting. Key duties include:
* Conducting detailed psychiatric assessments, developing care plans, and monitoring treatment outcomes.
* Leading clinical decision-making and risk management within a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring patient safety and recovery-focused care.
* Acting as the Responsible Clinician for detained patients, with Mental Health Act duties and active participation in Care Programme Approach (CPA) reviews.
* Providing clinical oversight and guidance to team members, supporting a collaborative approach to complex cases.
* Participating in service development, quality improvement, and governance activities to enhance care standards and service effectiveness.
This role is ideal for consultants with expertise in forensic psychiatry, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, recovery-oriented care.

Qualifications
Essential
* Full Registration with the General Medical Council
* MRCPsych or recognised equivalent
* Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 12 months of CCT at time of interview. CCT in general Forensic psychiatry.
* Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
