The Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) is the UK’s independent quality body for tertiary education, and our purpose is to ensure that students and learners experience the highest possible quality of education. As the Quality Assurance Service Provider for the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), it has been entrusted with undertaking quality reviews of nursing and midwifery programmes in UK institutions.
QAA also undertakes reviews for institutions throughout the UK, funded by Government bodies and independently for institutions that want to showcase their quality. QAA is also a membership organisation as well as having a consultative and advisory role, working at government level through to individual organisations, and plays a leading role in international developments in quality assurance, through membership of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) and of the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE).

Position:
In September 2024, QAA took on the role of Quality Assurance Service Provider for Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) quality assurance activities across the UK. To support this function, QAA is now looking for an independent Registered Midwife to sit on the QAA Board’s NMC Contract Advisory Committee.
As an independent Midwifery member of this Committee, you will collaborate with fellow members to oversee the delivery of the contract between the QAA and the NMC, providing information and assurance to both the QAA and its Board. We are seeking forward-thinking individuals to help monitor QAA’s performance against key performance indicators, evaluate its engagement with key stakeholders, and offer oversight and advice on potential risks and related action planning.
Requirements:
Applicants to a position are expected to:
1. hold current NMC registration as a Midwife;
2. have a working knowledge of the NMC standards for nursing and midwifery education;
3. have senior leadership experience in supporting the education of student nurses, student midwives and/or student nursing associates;
4. demonstrate appreciation of the dynamics in which quality assurance of higher education provision operates (political, social, financial);
5. demonstrate appreciation of the range of stakeholder interests in UK higher education and NMC provision;
6. provide evidence of Committee skills: objectivity, independence of mind, and good judgment; collegiate attitude to decision-making; willingness to share knowledge, skills and expertise to the benefit of the organisation and the beneficiaries of its work;
7. demonstrate willingness to accept the responsibilities of being a member of the Committee and ability to commit to the demands and requirements of the role.
Please note, this position is not open to current Registrant Visitors.

This is an unpaid committee role. The committee expects to meet 3x per year.
