Job Description
You will be responsible for the 24/7 Transport operations, managing the Transport Team comprising of 10 office staff and 30 drivers. As a line manager, you will need to have experience in HR processes such as grievances and disciplinaries.
Your main responsibilities will include supporting the Transport Manager in ensuring that costs are controlled in line with budget/forecast expectations. Transport compliance will also be a large part of your day-to-day, ensuring that MOTs and services are completed on time. You will act as a main point of contact for customer communication, dealing with enquiries and keeping them up to date with progress.
This role is mainly 09:00-17:00, Monday to Friday; however, some flexibility will be required to liaise with members of the team on the late/night shift.
What will you be doing?
* Manage the Depot Transport staff to execute Traffic plans to enable delivery of products to customers within agreed service levels.
* Reduce non-contract maintenance and damage spends through the use of vehicle passports, daily confirmation of spend, in conjunction with other Culina depots.
* Carry out monthly site self-audits.
* Motivate and develop the team through engagement, training, and personal development plans.
* Ensure all staff are fully trained and have the correct equipment.
* Ensure that the Transport team comply with all relevant statutes and regulations.
* Communicate with 3rd Party hauliers regarding control of all reported defects on drop trailers left for pre-loading.
* Check and approve maintenance cost reports and related invoices.
* Ensure annual MOTs and service intervals on all fleet equipment are carried out on time.
* Monitor, audit, and control suppliers.
* Attend Monthly Customer review meetings in the absence of the Transport Manager.
* Support communication throughout the department including team briefings and publication of KPIs.
* Support implementation of service improvements in conjunction with customers and other areas of the business.
* Generate and implement ideas regarding staff and operational changes, which will help drive continuous improvement.
* Ensure a secure and safe environment for staff, both in your department and across the wider business.
* Be responsible for the maintenance and fuel aspect of the Transport Budget, to include various KPIs and costs.
* Support the company in reducing its carbon footprint, for example, reducing road miles.
* Ability to deputise for the Transport Manager.
Qualifications
* Previous supervisory experience within an FMCG environment.
* Planning and organising skills with a high level of numeracy.
* Excellent negotiating skills with the ability to influence and steer.
* Leadership and motivational qualities and proven experience of building a team.
* An effective communicator at all levels, with good verbal and written skills.
* Personal motivation and confidence resulting in a positive impact.
* Genuine team player, a firm and confident manager skilled at setting clear objectives and motivating their team.
