What they look for in a Telecoms Engineer As a Telecoms Engineer, you will play a crucial role in managing technical and installation aspects of telecom projects. You will be responsible for connecting the end customer with internal teams and ensuring project goals are met. This is a field-based role with 85% of your time spent working on various sites. You’ll need a strong background in telecoms, particularly with networking equipment such as Huawei, Nokia, Cisco, and Meraki. An in-depth understanding of fixed-line networks, including telephone exchanges and roadside cabinets, is also required. Key Responsibilities: Conduct Risk Assessments and Health & Safety checks on sites. Install, configure, commission, and integrate customer equipment, adhering to company policies. Provide 1st line problem-solving support and escalate issues when necessary. Collaborate with internal PMO teams and external clients to ensure smooth project delivery. Create and update site records and reports according to customer specifications. Act as a mentor to junior engineers on site. Key Skills Expertise in Health & Safety systems and quality procedures. Knowledge of telecom infrastructures such as BT’s networks (internal and external). Proficiency with a wide range of networking and RF equipment (Huawei, Nokia, Cisco). Ability to interpret technical drawings and design plans. Familiarity with various communication technologies (ADSL, Copper, Fibre, Structured Cabling). What are they looking for in you? You should have significant hands-on experience in the telecoms industry, including working with internal and external BT networks. Strong technical knowledge of networking, data communications, and general telecommunications is essential, as is the ability to work with a variety of equipment and software tools (Excel, Word, Visio).
