The opportunity
Given recent and forecasted project growth, our client is currently looking to expand their highly skilled team of process specialists and is seeking an experienced Instrument Engineer to support the local projects team through the provision of Instrument Design and Consulting Services.
This role will require a high level of autonomy and strong communication skills. You will have a technical engineering design background.
This role has been deemed outside IR35 but is dependent on a full status determination assessment.
Duration: 3 months +
Location: Macclesfield
Rate: £48 to £55/hr LTD
Projects within the current portfolio include
1. Upgrade of effluent plant to PLC control
2. Upgrade of process plant to Emerson DCS and functional safety upgrades
Role Detail
Your duties and responsibilities will be:
1. Work closely with the Multi Discipline Design Team and Project Manager supporting the efficient and effective delivery of pharmaceutical projects.
2. Review and assess customer needs.
3. Provide resource estimates for design-related activities.
4. Produce reports, scope of works, concept design, and detailed designs.
5. Support effective delivery of projects to time, quality, and cost targets together with the ability to multi-task and prioritise.
6. Produce documentation in accordance with defined standards/quality requirements.
7. Liaise with design and equipment subcontractors.
8. Lead the improvement of performance by seeking, reviewing, and applying, where appropriate, innovative solutions.
9. Interface with other disciplines such as Mechanical, Process, HVAC, and Civil.
This position requires significant interface with the client and the client’s Installation team. To meet these requirements, it is recommended that the Instrument Engineer attends the Macclesfield office 3 days per week.
You will have the following qualifications and experience
1. Extensive experience (at least 5 years) in a relevant design role, including successful delivery of Instrumentation installation designs within projects for the pharmaceutical sector.
2. HNC or Degree in a technical engineering-related subject.
3. Membership of a professional Institution or similar body is desirable.
4. Experience in UK pharmaceutical construction projects is desirable but not essential.
5. Experience of E&I design best practices.
6. Project lifecycle experience (Concept through detail design to construction support).
7. Knowledge of data and administrative management practices and procedures.
8. Sound experience and knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015.
9. Undertake site surveys.
10. Possess collaborative skills and experience working as part of a multi-discipline team.
11. Possess the ability to work in a team or alone, comfortable liaising with client representatives.
12. Strong communication and organisational skills.
13. Compex 12 desirable or extensive experience of hazardous area design.
14. Qualification in functional safety working to IEC61511 highly desirable.
15. Experience producing SIL documentation supporting projects producing safety requirements specifications, systematic capabilities, architecture, and reliability assessments.
Software Packages
Proficient use of the following software packages:
1. AutoCAD LT (minimal CAD works expected).
2. Navisworks (Not essential).
3. Revit (Not essential).
4. Microsoft suite of programs.
The setting for the role
Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a pharmaceutical and chemical site. These can include noise, slips, trips and falls (high-gloss floors), mechanical hazards, extreme temperature and humidity, pressurised equipment, radiation, chemical, biological, explosive atmospheres, working at height, and confined spaces during cleaning maintenance and repair.
