An exciting opportunity has arisen to employ a dynamic forward thinking individual as a Band 6 senior staff nurse on Horder Ward. Horder ward is an 12 bedded Acute oncology ward caring for patients undergoing surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy. Horder ward also cares for palliative patients who have complex symptom control and psychological needs.
We are looking for a caring, compassionate and competent nurse who has a specialise interest in palliative care. The ideal candidate is someone who works well under pressure, with excellent time management skills and is dedicated to excellent patient care.

Main duties of the job
1. To coordinate and supervise a shift, communicating effectively with members of a multidisciplinary
team to deliver high quality, evidence-led care to patients.
2. To exercise clinical judgment and decision making about patient needs in terms of long term goals or
plans.
3. The Senior Staff Nurse is responsible for assisting the Ward Sister / Charge Nurse in the management of the clinical environment and for the management of shifts. At Senior Staff Nurse level, the post holder is required to take responsibility for the management and development of a team of employees under the supervision of the Ward Sister / Charge Nurse.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Senior Staff Nurse is responsible for supervising junior and unqualified staff in the delivery of care and to ensure that staff have the necessary knowledge, skills and resources to carry out the care delegated to them.
To act as role model and clinical leader to junior staff.
To utilize managerial skills within the clinical setting. This includes planning duty rotas which match unit needs with available expertise.

Essential criteria
4. NMC Registration
5. Evidence of ongoing professional development
6. RMH Certificate in Intravenous Drug Administration or to be obtained within three months of appointment
Desirable criteria
7. Qualification in oncology or speciality Diploma or Degree level study (or equivalent) Recognised teaching qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
8. Experience in intravenous drug administration
9. Sufficient post registration nursing experience in oncology or speciality to be confident and competent in using the required skills to do the job
Desirable criteria
10. Experience in chemotherapy administration
11. Experience in Clinical Management
12. Evidence of relevant teaching experience
13. Knowledge and understanding of clinical trials management
Skills Abilities/knowledge

14. Experience in oncology or area of specialty
15. Venepuncture and/or cannulation skills
16. Computer Literacy (e.g. use of Microsoft Word and Outlook)

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff
At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
