Job Description:
DENSO is looking for a highly motivated Engineer with the ability to work under pressure and deliver high quality work for Off-Highway and Heavy-Duty common rail diesel systems.
DENSO is seeking candidates with experience in any of the following areas:
1. Mechanical Engineering (Automotive, off-highway, Aviation)
2. Design Life Cycle (Automotive, off-highway, Aviation)
3. Validation / Testing & Reporting
Organisation in Coventry, UK
Coventry Engineering Centre has sole responsibility for design, validation, and productionisation of FIE components for customers across Europe (CAT, Cummins, Volvo Truck, Volvo PENTA, MAN, Kohler, GM). The organisation splits into 4 key groups:
1. Application customer support functions, with small teams spread across Europe
2. System team which helps support performance of the system (i.e. rail pressure and injector calibration)
3. Component Engineers who ensure the components design and customers' use of the components is suitable to achieve the customer’s requirements (performance, life, etc)
4. Test team who manage engineering responsible activities in our Test Facilities
The teams work in close collaboration to complete validation and investigate and solve customer issues. In this role, you will experience product design, simulation, and testing. It will be necessary to iterate designs as the customer develops their engine, input into change point analysis to determine necessary validation, investigate returned components, make judgement on customer validation, and take responsibility to create material to show why we have confidence to release parts to production.
Main Purpose of the Job
Hardware support for manufacturing plant, including design of Diesel FiE to secure production continuity for EU/Global Diesel customers.
Main Tasks of the Job
Responsibility for the design, testing, and analysis of parts of the Diesel FiE system. Responsibilities include discussion with the manufacturing plant (e.g. understanding of manufacturing challenges and impact to design), component testing of injector, pump, and rail, analysis/judgement, discussion within component design team, and reporting to customer/manufacturing plant.
DENSO is looking for an experienced design/component/manufacturing engineer with good theoretical knowledge and relevant powertrain experience, ideally with Diesel component experience.
Specific Responsibilities
Personnel: Will be working within the Component Design team.
Resources: Will need to manage own output/testing to the right quality.
Planning: Needs to be able to prioritise activities and be flexible in approach, ensuring all activity is aligned to the higher-level purpose.
Decisions: Needs to be able to deliver required output determined through alignment with team leader, with the minimum of input (good ownership). Needs to be proactive in reporting, exhibiting good communication to demonstrate alignment.
Working Conditions
Based at the Powertrain Engineering office in Coventry working in an open-plan office with access to laboratory, chassis dyno, and engine test bed/rig facilities. Potential for travel to customer sites (with potentially extended visits) and occasional travel to other DENSO offices (including Japan). A training placement in DENSO Hungary will be required and may be in Japan also. Ability to work additional hours as required. Ability to work offsite at customer/DENSO sites when requested.
Qualifications
Personal Attributes:
- Good Degree or Equivalent (2:1 or higher in Mechanical, Automotive, or Electronics Engineering)
- Clear thinker, good communicator, and proactive attitude. Good at logical analysis of data and problem-solving.
- Demonstrates clear ownership of tasks. Able to build relationships internally/externally.
- Experience using project management software (e.g. Confluence), MS Office, Matlab/Simulink.
What we offer you:
Competitive salary, comprehensive flexible benefits package, including generous holiday and pension schemes, continuous development opportunities, flexible working hours, discretionary annual bonus, and all equipment necessary to do your job.
Future Technology
DENSO continues to develop combustion technology using conventional fuels and exploring new carbon-neutral fuels and technologies to enable their use. DENSO is developing Hydrogen technology via our Research and Development Centre in Aachen. Once Hydrogen technology is production-ready, its promotion, application, and validation will be handled by the Coventry Engineering Team.
