This EHV Construction Project Engineer - SAP will report to the Lead Construction Engineer and will work within Capital Programme based in our Sussex/Surrey region. You will be a permanent employee.
You will attract a salary of £76,229 plus car and a bonus of 3%

Job Purpose
You will deliver the engineering activities within your allocated project team to undertake the delivery of Construction requirements relating to the UK Power Networks owned assets and associated infrastructure under the direction of the Construction Manager as part of the Investment Delivery team. You will work with and support the Project Managers, Commissioning Engineers and other members of the Investment Delivery Management team in the delivery of our goals and future budget identification and delivery. You will work with the Project Supervisors, electrical fitters and Contractors to undertake and complete the construction and delivery of a portfolio of projects.
The Project Engineer will ensure delivery of Capital works Construction projects, Asset Portfolio Plan and Connections as directed by the Construction Manager, oversee the management of substation and cabling construction works. The position holder will work with team members to ensure safety management is maintained throughout all activities during the delivery of the engineering tasks following the UK Power Networks Stay Safe initiative.
Principal Accountabilities
1. Delivery of the Construction programmes for the UK Power Networks owned assets operating at voltages through the range 400V to 132kV
2. Work with the Project Managers to ensure that all programmes of work are delivered to time, budget and quality drivers
3. Work with Project Supervisors and EHV fitters to ensure the delivery of all electrical engineering activities
4. Help manage budgets relating to the construction delivery and meet ongoing goals
5. As a team member work to ensure that UK Power Networks goals are achieved especially in Staff engagement and Client satisfaction
6. Follow UK Power Networks Operations and Procedures
7. Operate HV Distribution Protection Systems
8. Test and Commission HV Distribution System
9. Maintain the Control and Protection Systems
10. Ensure compliance with CDM and UK Power Networks Health and Safety policies
11. Develop site specific H,S & E procedures
12. Compliance with UK Power Networks quality policies
13. Operate and update Asset database in respect of project activities
14. Responsible for both reactive and planned construction activities
15. Perform fault investigation and repairs
16. Modify equipment and drawings to ensure the efficient operation of the substations
17. Ensure compliance with the distribution safety rules during all activities
18. Manage all contractors/staff working on site
19. Undertake additional activities determined by the job level and competency
Responsibilities:
1. Co-ordinate daily construction and maintenance activities with Client / Principal Contractor's ensuring programmes are met
2. Obtain quotations from suppliers and raise Purchase Order requests with Finance & Governance team
3. Change Management - ensure early warning notices are brought to the attention of the Project Manager / Commercial Manager & Partners
4. Provide technical support and act as appoint of reference for the Construction team
5. When deputising for the Construction Manager deliver team briefings and give feedback
6. Identify potential project risks/opportunities (raise awareness within team/company)
7. Proactively seek continuous improvement
8. Work unsocial hours to respond to faults on system
9. Assist the Construction Manager in the development of the ongoing Asset Portfolio Plan
10. Represent UKPN at meetings with clients and contractors
11. When undertaking engineering activities manage the team of employees and contractors for the delivery
12. When undertaking engineering activities manage the compliance with all H&S procedures such as Putting People to Work and Distribution Safety Rules
Qualifications
Essential:
1. Senior Authorised Person as defined by the Distribution Safety Rules - Preferable 132kV or 33kV however training will be provided to achieve this level of authorisation if authorised at 11kV.
2. Experience in distribution systems through the range 400v to 132kV
3. Educated to a minimum HNC level qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
4. Working knowledge of distribution HV Systems
5. Knowledge of Building Services Systems
6. Read schematic drawings and understand content
7. Work in different environments
8. Identify problems, understand main issues and investigate alternatives
9. Hold full driving licence
10. Use Microsoft Office suite, Outlook, MS Project and other custom software packages
Desirable:
1. A broad understanding of UK Power Networks directorates
2. Travel around the Capital Programme's SPN portfolio of projects
3. Have persuasive negotiating and influencing skills
4. Ability to manage time and to meet deadlines
5. To be skilful in decision-making
6. Relevant Safety Qualification such as IOSH or NEBOSH
7. Knowledge of Construction Design and Management Regulations
