Senior Staff Nurse
To provide high quality, evidence-based nursing care to Residents admitted to the Home. To deliver high quality, evidence-based and Resident-focused clinical care. To work effectively as part of the immediate team and wider multi-disciplinary team (MDT). To uphold a duty of care and clinical governance.
Responsibilities:
1. Maintain knowledge and competencies in tracheostomy and ventilator care and management.
2. Clinically manage red flag and other concerns, knowing when to appropriately escalate care to external healthcare professionals.
3. Develop and maintain a professional link-nurse function, for example, infection control, tissue viability, PEG Management, Continence, as agreed with the Sister/Charge Nurse.
4. Deliver a high standard of evidence-based care to Residents.
5. Ensure good standards of care for the Resident are maintained at all times.
6. Adhere to NMC Code of Professional conduct at all times.
7. Involve and support Residents, relatives, carers, and friends in the care process.
8. Promote well-being and involve Residents and relatives in health education.
9. Ensure clear and accurate written and verbal information is given at all times.
10. Ensure contemporaneous record keeping at all times.
11. Seek advice from more senior/experienced members of staff where appropriate.
12. Liaise effectively with all members of the MDT to ensure Residents' needs are met.
13. Exercise leadership and take the initiative where appropriate.
14. Provide support and advice to staff (especially junior staff) on clinical and administrative issues.
15. Keep the Sister/Charge Nurse informed of significant changes and/or anticipated problems.
16. Observe a general duty of care for the health, safety, and well-being of yourself, work colleagues, visitors, and Residents within the Home.
17. Ensure the rules, policies, procedures, and standards of the Home are adhered to at all times.
18. Maintain Resident confidentiality, dignity, and privacy at all times.
19. Adhere to the Home's policy on valuing equality and diversity, showing due regard for each Resident's cultural and religious beliefs, gender, ethnicity, age, and sexuality.
20. Strictly adhere to the Home's Infection Control Protocols, policies, and procedures.
21. Take responsibility for your own personal development and keep up to date with nursing knowledge.
22. Act as a role model at all times and for all staff.
23. Act as practice supervisor and/or preceptor/mentor for junior and newly-qualified staff.
24. Participate in the Home's initiatives to develop nursing practice and support change.
General:
1. Maintain strict confidentiality of staff and Residents records, in line with The Home's Information Governance Policy.
2. Ensure that acceptable standards of data protection are maintained, in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
3. Observe the rules, policies, and procedures in place at the Home.
4. Participate in team meetings as required.
5. Undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade, which may be required from time to time.
