Thepost holder will work with the Band 7 Benign CNS team leader to develop andsupport our service for patients who require urological nursing within theLeeds Teaching Hospitals.
Therole of the Clinical Nurse Specialist for Urology is autonomous and covers fourmain areas:caseload management, clinical practice, education and research andwill reflect the needs of our patients, urological consultants, senior nursing,medical consultants within associated services, inhouse service developmentsand national guidelines.
Withthe appropriate support and training we expect the individual to provideadvice, information and support to patients, carers and staff regardingUrological expect the individual to provide care for patients inline with Trust and Government strategies and collaboration withsenior medical and nursing staff the post holder will assist in the support ofresearch, audit and quality assurance projects.

Main duties of the job
Thesuccessful applicant will require an in depth background, and knowledge ofBenign Urology nursing, excellent communication skills, a willingness todevelop the service and have the desire to continually improve patient care.

2.Provide a specialist nursing service for patients with Benign urologicaldisease who require support and treatment through the continuum of care.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will provide high quality specialist nursing care to patients with urological conditions. The post holder will provide support and advice to patients and their families as well as acting as a resource to other professionals.
To undertake nurse led clinics in line with identified protocols and clinical guidance. The list of clinics include:
1. Trial without catheter (TWOC)
2. Catheter change
3. Bladder Instillation service (Painful Bladder Syndrome)
4. Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS) -One Stop Clinic
5. Lithotripsy
6. Erectile Dysfunction
7. Continence
Liaise with medical team to report any significant clinical changes reported by the patients and facilitate any recommendations following medical discussion.
To demonstrate specialist skills and knowledge through expert nursing practice.
To promote and maintain effective communication.
To liaise with Clinical Lead and Team Leader on issues of service management and development for Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust (LTHT) AND THE Urology Service.
To review and develop written policies, protocols and guidance relevant to this patient group, in conjunction with the Multidisciplinary team. Updated as stipulated.
To be responsible for own professional development and maintenance of standards supported by Lead nurse and Team leader.
Accept appropriate referrals from MDT colleagues.
Where appropriate work collaboratively with MDT colleagues across Primary and Secondary care to provide a seamless service delivery to the patient, family and / carer as appropriate.
Identify and promote specific symptom management strategies as well as the identification of triggers which may cause exacerbation of symptoms. Provide patients with appropriate self-management strategies and escalation pathways.
Contribute to the design, development and implementation of education programmes and resources for the patient, family and or carer in relation to urological diseases thus empowering them to self manage their condition.
Provide mentorship for nursing colleagues as appropriate and create exchange of learning opportunities within the MDT.
Use outcomes of audit to improve service provision.
