Environmental Manager
Location: Chemsford with hybrid working
Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 plus car / car allowance and package
Summary
A leading tier 1 contractor in the civil engineering and infrastructure sectors is seeking an Environmental Manager to oversee projects across London and the South East. Based out of offices in either Watford or London, the Environmental Manager will be responsible for taking the lead in creating a culture of best practice environmental performance and continue to improve the sustainability of projects, whilst at the same time managing and reducing the direct impact of our activities. The client's ambition is to help shape a sustainable world through focusing on three main areas:
1. Acting for the climate
2. Optimising resources through circular economy
3. Preserving natural environments
Projects include highway schemes (minor and major), urban realm projects as well as work in the energy sector.
Duties
1. Initiate and maintain systems to review and monitor compliance with BS EN ISO 14001 and other company/divisional standards.
2. Manage and oversee monitoring equipment, collect, process and interpret data (e.g. water, dust, noise, waste).
3. Manage onsite Environmental Site inspections, highlighting any bad and good practices to the relevant teams and Senior Management.
4. Ensure that the Project Environmental Management System is implemented and operated on site through a programme of checking and auditing.
5. Record and report all incidents to all relevant parties and instigate any corrective actions required.
6. Prepare monthly environmental reports for the project, including completion of company/client and divisional reporting systems data systems.
7. Regularly report progress (including achievements) against environmental compliance and environmental targets to the whole team.
8. Develop robust and comprehensive mitigation measures to deal with environmental risks, working collaboratively with the production team.
9. Produce, review and update the Project Environmental Management Plan - EMP (and associated plans) on a regular basis.
10. Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and client representatives to ensure collaborative working relationships.
Person Specification
1. Hold Bachelor's degree/MSc (or equivalent) in a relevant environmental discipline.
2. Broad knowledge of all aspects of environmental design and works and impacts on 3rd parties.
3. Experience of consents and environmental permits, discharge licences.
4. Strong understanding of Net Zero, including understanding of Scope 3 carbon emissions.
5. Knowledge of relevant UK Environment legislation and current best practice guidance.
6. Member of IEMA, ideally chartered or working towards chartered status.
7. An understanding of ecological impacts.
