Unilever is looking for an Engineering apprentice to complete a Level 3 apprenticeship and join their team. Mechatronics Maintenance Technicians ensure that plant and equipment perform to the required standard to facilitate production targets regarding Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost within High-Value Manufacturing environments.
Typically, the work covers a broad range of activities including installation, testing, fault finding, and the ongoing planned maintenance of complex automated equipment. This requires the application of a complex blend of skills, knowledge, and occupational behaviours across the electrical, electronic, mechanical, fluid power, and control systems disciplines.
Role & Responsibilities:
* Carrying out fault diagnosis on engineered systems
* Carrying out preventative planned maintenance on engineered systems
* Assembling and testing fluid power systems
* Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment
* Wiring and testing electrical equipment and circuits
* Hydraulics and pneumatics
* Programmable Logic Controller (PLCs)
* Health and Safety in the Engineering workplace
* Communications for engineering technicians
* Mathematics for engineering technicians
* Mechanical Principles of engineering systems
* Electrical and electronic principles in engineering
* Application and principles of PLCs
* Monitoring and fault diagnosis of engineering systems
* Maintenance of mechanical systems
Skills Required:
* Experience of adapting own skills to new circumstances
* Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
Personal Qualities:
* Must be capable of working within a team environment
* Ability to problem solve in a variety of situations
* Ability to assess and organise resources, and plan and progress work activities
Things to Consider:
During the first year, you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based in Catcliffe, Sheffield, for an initial block of full-time study. One Friday per month you will return to your workplace. After the initial block training, you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.
Unless exemptions apply, year 1 apprentices are required to live full time in Sheffield for 24 weeks in university accommodation so that they can attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield.
Future programme years apprentices are required to continue attending the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, for example, 1 day per month which will require travel and overnight hotel accommodation.

* GCSE English language C or 4 or above
* GCSE Maths C or 4 or above
Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
