Job Description
Rappahannock Community College (RCC) seeks applicants for the Accountant position who share RCC’s values of integrity, diversity, equity, and inclusion, excellence, access, and learning for life. This is a full-time 12-month classified staff position located on the Glenns campus.
The successful candidate will be committed to academic excellence, continuous improvement through professional development, and creating a collegial environment of civility, collaboration, and open communication. The Accountant plays a critical role in managing the financial aspects of the student experience, focusing on maintaining accurate student financial accounts, managing accounts receivables, collections, and reporting compliance.
Core responsibilities include:
1. Invoicing students and third-party accounts
2. Maintaining the college tuition and fees schedule
3. Acting as liaison to Financial Aid
4. Performing backouts
5. Preparing military billings and local billings
6. Processing student refunds
7. Posting financial aid awards
8. Reconciling scholarship awards
9. Preparing month-end journal entries
10. Treasury management
11. Balancing daily cash transactions for deposit
12. Reconciling bank accounts
13. Safeguarding the integrity of student account information
Additionally, the Accountant empowers students by giving them the knowledge and tools needed to handle their financial matters responsibly during their academic journey. This position serves as the secondary point of contact and the primary backup for critical tasks for Workforce, cross-training with the Workforce Accountant on related duties.
Special Assignments: May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications:
* General knowledge of accounting principles and practices
* Experience preparing accounts receivable invoices, AR reconciliation, and cash
* Experience with preparing AR Year-End Audit Schedules
* Experience with processing payments
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
* Ability to work independently and in a team setting
* Strong customer service and communication skills
* Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
* High proficiency in Excel and Word
Additional Considerations:
* Advanced experience preparing student billings, and deferred revenue
* Strong knowledge of scholarships, financial aid, and return to Title IV processing
* Experience with Peoplesoft applications
Required Travel: May be required to travel between campuses and throughout the service region.
