We are seeking a new Senior Clinical Fellow to join our highly skilled network of staff to continue delivering outstanding care and outcomes for our patients. This is a fixed term post for 6 months on a part time basis 0.7 WTE.
As part of the plastic and reconstructive service provision to the MTC in Cardiff, we are appointing a senior clinical fellow (equivalent to ST3 level) to join our team of seven Plastic & Reconstructive Consultant Surgeons and four senior clinical fellows, to provide on site plastic surgery trauma cover in the MTC from 08:00 - 20:00, Monday to Friday. Alongside working in the MTC, the remainder of the job will be based at the Welsh Centre for Burns & Plastic Surgery in Morriston Hospital, Swansea, where the fellow will have the opportunity to undertake elective and emergency plastic surgery practice as part of the wider plastic surgery department. This fellow posts will join a team serving a population of around 2.3 million and providing a wide spectrum of surgery. The Welsh Centre for Burns & Plastic Surgery has a wide remit and we are able to offer nearly all services in Swansea for congenital and acquired conditions following cancer, trauma and infections.
Main duties of the job
This Senior Clinical Fellow post would ideally suit candidates who are working towards obtaining a plastic surgery NTN, with exposure to LA skin cancer operating, burns, hand trauma and elective clinics and operating.
The postholder will have responsibility in the MTC for assessment of orthoplastic cases with a view to definitive treatment or preparation for microsurgical reconstruction in Morriston Hospital. There will be LA day case operating for plastic trauma and on-call commitments.
Although not recognised for training the successful applicant will have opportunity to participate in teaching, Audit and quality Improvement projects dependant on the needs of the service.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND APTITUDE
Essential
* Competent to work within a team assessing and initiating the resuscitation of a Major Trauma patient.
* Good communication skills, interpersonal and organisational skills.
* Competent use of Microsoft Windows and Office.
* Evidence of participation in multidisciplinary team.
* Ability to prioritise workload and use initiative.
* Has foundation knowledge of Plastic Surgical principles.
* Meet the requirements of the GMC's Good Medical Practice.
Desirable
* Experience of Electronic patient records and electronic prescribing.
* Basic Surgical Skills Course.
* Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient.
* Advanced Trauma Life Support or European Trauma Course.
QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING
Essential
* MRCS or equivalent.
* Evidence of completion of Core Surgical Training competencies (or equivalent).
* Full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
* Demonstrable intention of career path in Plastic Surgery.
Desirable
* Higher professional qualification (Diploma, MSc, MD, PhD).
EXPERIENCE
Essential
* Evidence of at least two years of full time hospital practice at Core Training/SpR level.
* Has experience of Plastic Surgery during training.
* Involvement in audit and research projects.
* Demonstrable computer/IT/Research skills.
* Demonstrable evidence of Teaching.
Desirable
* Relevant experience in Plastic Surgery at SpR level.
* Teaching courses.
