Wye Valley NHS Trust wishes to appoint Clinical Fellows in Emergency and General Surgery, based at the County Hospital, Hereford.
Successful applicants will be offered a 12 month post in General & Emergency Surgery, developed to support mainly acute and ambulatory general surgical flow in the trust.
Main duties of the job
The post holders will have supervised responsibility for elective and acute surgical inpatients, including preparation for theatre and postoperative care. They are expected to assist in theatre during operation lists and to be trained as appropriate.
During on-call/acute shifts, the post holder will be based primarily in the Surgical Same Day Emergency Care unit, gaining experience in acute ambulatory surgical care, including urology. They will participate fully in the acute take, including post-take ward round, patient assessment in Emergency department, 'hot' clinics and participation in the NCEPOD theatre sessions.
All resident surgical staff have the opportunity to attend Outpatient clinics, receiving support and supervision from consultant surgeons.
The post provides wide experience in the management of common acute and elective general and gastrointestinal conditions. The post holder will assist in operating lists and learn to perform ward procedures.
A comprehensive induction program will be provided prior to commencement of clinical duties.
