The Andrew McAvoy RCS - Advanced Robotic/Laparoscopic Colorectal Fellowship
(COMMENCING April 2026 – April 2027)
The Liverpool University NHS Foundation Trust (LUHFT) colorectal surgery department is a dynamic tertiary referral unit and offers all of the major colorectal sub-specialty services.
Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a full time Royal College of Surgeon England (RCS) approved advanced colorectal fellow Colorectal Surgery for a 12-month fixed term contract from April 2026.
We are looking for a senior colorectal trainee for a period of 12 months commencing in April 2026. The candidate will get training in Robotic and laparoscopic surgery including advanced pelvic oncology and peritonectomy. On-call general surgery will be optional and if agreed will be in Royal Liverpool site.
This 12-month post will allow a senior post CCST trainee to experience all facets of patient management from diagnostics through the MDT process and on to treatment and follow up. In addition to the usual colorectal services, LUHFT has several specialist services including being a regional exenteration centre in conjunction with our colleagues in urology and gynae-oncology and regional peritoneal peritonectomy service. The unit also provides a regional Specialist Early Rectal Cancer (SERC), which includes TEMS procedures that the fellow will have exposure to and will be expected to gain expertise in. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), pelvic floor and TEMs services also run within the unit. The department works within a JAG accredited endoscopy unit and training, or service can be provided to the candidate depending on their level of experience. It will be encouraged that the appointed fellow develops advanced skills in colonoscopy as opportunities are fantastic.
