Job Overview In its simplest form, Value Based Health Care (VBHC) is about making sure that all we do, including the way we use our scarce resources, focuses on improving health outcomes for our population. Our vision for a VBHC approach is encapsulated in our three goals: Invest in the systems and processes to enable our staff to routinely use patient reported outcomes and resource utilisation data in planning, organising and delivering healthcare. Develop the knowledge and skills of our staff to put the theory of VBHC into practice. Establish partnerships with universities, innovation agencies, international healthcare systems and companies to understand how to optimise the wider societal benefits of adopting a VBHC approach and accelerate the innovations with demonstrable potential to securing them. The Clinical Lead for VBHC plays a crucial role in transforming healthcare by focusing on sustainably improving the outcomes that are important to our patients while considering the resources used in delivering services. The role is suitable for an innovator, who is focused on transforming health care incollaborationwith a range of stakeholders from across the healthcare system and beyond. Main duties of the job The Clinical Lead for VBHC will work to develop and refine the VBHC strategy, aligned to organisational objectives and national priorities. The introduction of a VBHC approach requires close collaboration across multiple disciplines and specialties. The Clinical Lead will foster meaningful cooperation among clinicians, nurses, administrative teams and finance professionals through shared objectives. Successful collaboration will enable services to identify opportunities for a reduction in low value activities that do not adversely affect outcomes that are important to our population. At the core of VBHC is the measurement of Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs), which requires an analytical approach to data. The Clinical Lead is tasked with ensuring that the metrics selected are appropriate in reflecting patient outcomes within specialties and that the analysis of the data is undertaken appropriately. Accordingly, the Clinical Lead for Value Based Health Care needs to be passionate about providing innovative services for our population, and realistic in identifying the changes we can make sustainably given the constraints on scarce resources. Furthermore, the post holder will have excellent communication skills and will be able to help others to consider different ways of working in the pursuit of a common goal.
