Acute Oncology/Cancer Careline Support worker

This position is advertised for a Clinical Support Worker to work as part of a friendly, professional team within the Acute Oncology Service. The Acute Oncology Service is a 7 day service and the hours are 8-6. This role is based at the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, however there could be times where you are expected to cross cover across the sites.
Some previous oncology experience would be beneficial but this is not essential, however a range of experience within the acute setting would be extremely useful for this role.

Main duties of the job
* Communicate effectively with patients and their relatives, ensuring accurate and seamless information is conveyed and documented face to face and over the phone within the Acute Oncology team and the cancer care line
* Assist in the maintenance and monitoring of agreed standards.
* Ensure that all quality initiatives within the Acute Oncology service are adhered to and that the highest standards of care are maintained at all times
* Assist in the development of clinical protocols ensuring that these are reviewed in accordance with the needs of the service in conjunction with the Acute Oncology Lead Nurse Practitioners.
* Ensure that accurate and legible patient records are kept in line with professional and legal requirements
* Promote and maintain effective working relationships and communications with consultants, medical staff, nurse colleagues and other members of the wider multidisciplinary teams.
* Act as the identified Nurse for acutely ill patients by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating their care.
* Be an active component within the cover of the cancer care line
* Act as the patients' advocate
* Liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team
* Be clinically competent in all areas of advanced practice relevant to the post
About us
We currently have a vacancy within the Acute Oncology Team and we are looking to increase our existing caring and compassionate team with nurses who are keen and enthusiastic and in return we can offer you a stimulating working environment which will develop the skills and abilities required in our specialty. To help you do this you will supported by a large multidisciplinary team which includes Oncologists, Acute Oncology/Palliative care Consultants, Lead Nurse Practitioners, Acute Oncology Nurse Practitioners, Acute Oncology Navigators, Support workers and Cancer care Line coordinator teams. Along side the wider teams such as the CNS teams, palliative care, chemotherapy units and the whole of the cancer services teams within our organisation.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* NVQ level 3, Foundation Degree in health and care, evidence of continued professional development
* Good knowledge across health care, GCSE math's and English
Skills
* excellent communication skills, verbal, non verbal and telephone, triage skills, excellent IT skills, data collection
* knowledge and insight into cancer pathways, able to adapt to change, flexibility
Experience
* relevant experience at band 3 in health and social, telephone skills, experience in booking and the use of NHS systems
* knowledge of KOMS, IT systems, spread sheets
Knowledge
* knowledge and understanding of person centered care, understanding of health and social care, aware of limitations and boundaries
* previous NHS experience, cancer pathways, medical terminology
