We are looking for a talented and experienced Children’s Book Editor & Project Manager to help with the editorial and project management of our novelty books and toys. This role requires a passion for children’s publishing, strong editorial skills, a creative mind and excellent project management skills.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Create detailed briefs for designers and illustrators to help bring our products to life.
2. Write or commission content for our books, ensuring it is fun, engaging and age-appropriate.
3. Ensure that all projects are of a high creative standard, delivered on time and within the agreed budget.
4. Check illustrations and artwork files are correct according to the brief.
5. Amend and tweak artwork files.
6. Proofread proofs and pre-production samples.
7. Work with international suppliers to ensure our products are manufactured to the highest quality and within schedule.
8. Oversee project timelines, ensuring schedules are adhered to.
9. Assist the Directors in new product development and planning.
10. Ensure our website is up to date with new products, writing copy for the site and helping with photography and videography.
11. Create and provide sales material for new products, including promotional videos and product photography.
Key Skills and Requirements:
1. Experience in the Children’s Publishing industry in a similar role. However, if you have similar project management experience in a creative role, we are open to discussions.
2. Excellent proficiency in English grammar and spelling.
3. Exceptional proofreading skills with a knack for creative, engaging copy writing.
4. An excellent eye for creative design essential with meticulous attention to detail.
5. High level of computer literacy essential. Spreadsheet kings/queens we need you!
6. Experience with Adobe Illustrator and InDesign would be a bonus.
7. Ability to juggle multiple projects and looming deadlines without breaking a sweat.
8. Strong understanding and passion for the children’s book and toy industry.
9. Extremely organised – perhaps to a diagnosable level…
10. Flexible and adaptable to whatever the day may bring.
11. Friendly, warm, unflappable, great sense of humour, ability to communicate and build relationships with people on all levels.
12. A helpful, positive can-do attitude who enjoys being part of a compact team.
