Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Curatorial Team and work closely with the Co-Founders to deliver a new flagship project in East London. The role involves delivering an NHS project and supporting events and fundraisers that sustain our vital work.
You can expect regular travel to the project site and relevant institutions, and the position will include a hands-on element, such as supporting artists to lead workshops and coordinating artwork installations on-site with dedicated technicians.
For this East London project, we seek an experienced and imaginative curator with a proven track record in artist commissions; delivering participatory programmes in community or hospital settings; installing outdoor sculptures and large-scale installations; and possessing established artist networks.
This project takes place within an inpatient mental health hospital, one of the wards participating has recently been named by staff to honour artist Donald Rodney. Part of the curatorial approach for the project will be informed by Rodney's artwork and his subsequent influence on wider contemporary art practice. We will draw on the Black community's experience in mental health settings and aim to illuminate this through the resulting artworks.
The Curator will join the team in April 2024 (or sooner) to lead the artistic co-production phase of workshops through to installation and the project's completion in early 2026.
The role will require close collaboration with artists, service users, unit staff, NHS Trusts, and funders throughout. All projects are accompanied by a publication, a dedicated exhibition, and a public programme, which the Curator will coordinate in partnership with the Co-Founders and Hospital Rooms' Public Programmes Curator.
