Job Title: Support Worker
Location: Somewhere to Go, Weston-super-Mare
Accountable to: Senior Management
Requirements: Due to the nature of the clients we work with we can only accept applicants who are 18+ years old.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to provide essential support and assistance to individuals in need. The purpose of this role is to provide high quality day centre support to homeless and vulnerable adults across the Weston-super-Mare area in accordance with the strategic objectives of Somewhere to Go.
Job Purpose:
As a Support Worker, you will be required to contribute to the effective provision of the organisation. You will support clients to maintain independence and to thrive within their communities, by offering practical assistance, support, advice, advocacy, coaching and encouragement to enable households to resettle and to prevent homelessness. You will need to manage the risk and needs of these individuals through assessment and management plans. You will be highly knowledgeable and capable in subjects such as housing and homeless legislation, benefits, and welfare, safeguarding and risk management. Furthermore, you will have knowledge or experience working with services across North Somerset and neighbouring counties.
Responsibilities:
1. Deliver professional, impartial, pragmatic, outcome-focused support to a range of clients with complex needs to ensure that they thrive in their community.
2. To give full support on different issues which are likely to include several of the following areas: homelessness and housing, domestic abuse, relationship breakdown, disrepair, illegal eviction, welfare and housing benefits, debt, employment, and safeguarding.
3. Provide information, guidance, and advocacy to clients.
4. Undertake all monitoring and meet KPIs as required.
5. Act on advice and support from more senior staff as appropriate on cases.
6. Work within strategic and legislative framework.
7. Ensure all work meets both external and internal quality, contractual, performance and professional targets and standards.
8. Ensure client details are kept securely in line with GDPR.
9. Identify cases requiring further help (specialist advice, alternative support) and refer as appropriate.
10. Develop, maintain and coordinate effective working relationships with external agencies.
11. Maintain accurate records of support provided and report any changes in client welfare to appropriate services.
Personal Specification:
1. Previous experience working with clients with multiple and complex needs including but not limited to: homelessness, mental health, care needs, offending history, physical health, substance misuse, trauma & abuse within the last 5 years.
2. Knowledge and/or qualifications in relation to the issues our clients are facing.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of support services in North Somerset for at-risk individuals.
4. Excellent communication skills and a compassionate approach are essential.
5. An in-depth knowledge and understanding of the application of safeguarding policy and practice whilst working in communities with vulnerable adults.
6. Excellent professional boundaries.
7. Knowledge and experience of de-escalating conflict.
8. An in-depth knowledge of MS Office applications and a demonstrated ability to generate and analyse performance reports using Microsoft Office applications.
9. Familiar with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulations and is experienced in providing a confidential service to customers and in managing their personal information in a confidential manner.

We value lived experience and each DBS check will be assessed on a case by case basis.
