About the Role
We are seeking an Assistant Management Accountant to join our Finance team based in Hull, supporting a main group of UK-registered entities (New Statesman Ltd and Progressive Media Investments Ltd) and a small number of subsidiaries, primarily covering activities in the US and India.
In this role, you will prepare monthly management accounts with variance analysis to budget and prior year on a timely basis, perform key reconciliation tasks, and assist with monthly/year-end processes and statutory returns. You will ensure all specified bank reconciliations are completed in a timely manner, overseeing all operational receipts and payments inputted and reconciled into Accounts IQ software.
Key Responsibilities:
* Maintain and produce reconciliations for multiple bank accounts across the group.
* Support operational locations with any Treasury related queries.
* Process ad-hoc payment requests directly through the online banking process.
* Preparation and posting of journals to ensure accurate accounting of bank movement.
* Maintain good working relationships with 3rd parties such as banking partners, digital payment providers, and external auditors.
* Accurately process financial information to deliver monthly management accounts with commentary and comparisons against budget/prior year within the agreed timeframe (working day 10).
* Prepare monthly journals, accruals, prepayments, deferred costs and income reports, and balance sheet reconciliations.
* Assist with the preparation of year-end financials, annual adjustments, budget preparation, and support managers with any queries, enabling them to manage their budgets effectively.
* Cover for other members of the finance team during periods of absence and annual leave.
* Proactively develop and improve processes and procedures to deliver against objectives.
* Facilitate learning through gathering, documenting, and transferring knowledge throughout the team to ensure best practices are in place and agreed service levels are met.
Skills and Experience:
* Hands-on experience within an accounts department.
* Previous experience of bank reconciliations.
* AAT qualified accountant.
* Study support is available for suitable candidates.
* General knowledge of Purchase Ledger and Sales Ledger.
* Demonstrable experience of successfully closing month-end and preparation of journals.
* Previous financial systems experience.
* Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs.
* Effective written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.
* Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to work with colleagues at all levels including non-finance members of staff.
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
* Adaptable, able to confidently work within a changing environment.
