DESIGN ENGINEER / SENIOR DESIGN ENGINEER (Solidworks / Mechanical)

The company is a leading automation integrator, working with manufacturers to automate repetitive processes and increase the capacity of their existing team.
*** This role has no direct reports, but comes with a Senior Design Engineer title due to the requirement for a level of design engineering competency, combined with the ability to be self-motivated, to work autonomously, and to manage both yourself and your workload/projects.
You will be working in a project team tasked with the engineering design of bespoke robot cells, including product development and integration, providing quotations, and liaising with the client to ensure project objectives are met. *It is NOT necessary to have experience of robotics and/or software.
The successful candidate will be versed in the use of Solidworks and possess the necessary design engineering knowledge to develop design concepts. Knowledge of Visualize for Solidworks would be an advantage. The role is varied, and we expect you will continue to increase your skill set over time and grow into the role. The role will require a dedication to learning, as the technology is advancing constantly and our position as a leading integrator.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Project planning and management – ensuring milestones are delivered on time.
2. Developing new products to take to market.
3. Installation and integration of equipment on customer sites.
4. Leading or supporting the design and completion of projects, liaising with different skills across our team to ensure all aspects of the project come together as expected.
5. Using your mechanical and electrical skillset to develop finished designs for fixturing and complete cells, including schematics, controls, and interfaces.
6. Lead software development with internal/external teams to solve design issues.
7. Maintaining an up-to-date awareness of emerging technologies and trends and communicating this across the teams to keep everyone at the forefront of knowledge relating to our products and services.
8. Collaborate with colleagues at industry exhibitions.
9. Understanding relevant ISO and Machinery standards to build safety into every application in line with them.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
ESSENTIAL
1. Preferably qualified to BEng level or to HNC level (with strong/demonstrable Design Engineering experience).
2. A good allrounder with a desire to learn and develop the additional skills required to fulfil your role.
3. Experience in Mechanical or Mechatronic engineering design and development.
4. Knowledge / experience of Solidworks.
5. Strong Mechanical design skills.
6. Ability to problem solve using different techniques, trouble-shooter, tenacious in finding solutions.
7. Excellent verbal and written skills able to convey technical information to non-technical audiences.
8. Attention to detail, accuracy, time management, and prioritisation.
9. Demonstrate a passion for robotics and automation.
10. Effective communication across internal and customer teams.
11. Up-to-date awareness of emerging technologies and trends.
DESIRABLE
1. Electrical design engineering, robotics, or Automation would be useful but not essential.
2. Experience in low voltage electronics – schematics and building electrical cabinets / Pneumatics / Visualize / PDM / Multiple Project Management / Robotics / multi-axis arms.
NB: Candidate must be able to drive and have a full UK driving licence.
DETAILS OF PACKAGE
Up to £55,000 PA (Depending on experience) + Benefits / 39 Hour week: 8 to 5 Monday to Thursday / 8 to 1 Friday (Some flexibility around core hours by agreement) / Good training and career development opportunity with a strong, established and growing business. / Fuel allowance for staff commuting in excess of 40 miles per day.
