The North East Regional Organised Crime Unit is one of ten Regional Organised Crime Units (“ROCU”) in England and Wales who lead the regional response to tackling serious and organised crime whilst supporting local and national delivery. The ROCU network continues to expand and Home Office funding through police officer uplift and increased police staff capacity presents exciting opportunities to further enhance service delivery and positively impact on our partners and the public.
The Home Office Serious and Organised Crime Strategy defines ROCU as leading the regional fight against Serious and Organised Crime and NEROCU have a critical role in leading, connecting and co-ordinating delivery across our region in all four P’s of the strategy; Pursue – prosecuting and disrupting people engaged in serious and organised criminality. Prevent – preventing people from engaging in serious and organised criminality. Protect – increasing protection against organised crime. Prepare – reducing the impact of serious and organised crime where it takes place.

An exceptional opportunity has emerged within the Technical Surveillance Unit (TSU) at the North-East Regional Organised Crime Unit (NEROCU). We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Technical Surveillance Officer to join Northumbria Police and work alongside a team of specialist staff.

As a TSU officer, you will play a crucial role in providing technical support and assistance in covert surveillance operations. What you’ll do
1. Customer Liaison & Feasibility Studies: Identify and prioritise requirements, ensuring authorizations. Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments, presenting options to agree on the best solution.
2. Solution Design & Implementation: Develop bespoke technical solutions, liaising with internal and external parties. Implement and install solutions, adapting to changes to maintain operation integrity and safety.
3. Team Collaboration & Flexibility: Work cooperatively with team members, contributing to team achievements and department goals whilst aligning with Police Service values.
4. Database & Equipment Management: Maintain detailed records for management and audit purposes. Service and repair equipment, monitor stock levels, and ensure compliance with quality standards.
5. Guidance: Provide guidance on equipment, ensuring issue is authorised and adheres to department and national procedures.
