The Health and Safety Officer is responsible for promoting a strong Health and Safety focused culture across the business and creating a safe working environment.
This role will be based at our Head Office in Tiverton, Devon but will involve providing support on a regular basis to our sister company Northfield Foundry in Brixham, Devon.
Candidates will need to have demonstrable experience of working in a Health and Safety role within a manufacturing/engineering environment. An IOSH qualification is essential whilst a NEBOSH qualification would be an advantage.
Our ideal candidate will have an understanding of Health and Safety Legislation and experience of undertaking risk assessments.
MAIN DUTIES OF JOB:
* To be the first point of contact for all Health and Safety issues
* Develop, implement and enforce Health and Safety policies and procedures ensuring they are adhered to at all times
* Develop and implement a system of health and safety inspections and audits to help monitor performance
* Advising on the maintenance and improvement of safe systems of work
* Carry out risk assessments and consider how risks could be reduced
* Carry out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented and make recommendations for improvement
* Inspect equipment and machinery to ensure safety
* Investigate accidents and incidents and produce reports
* Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation and any developments that affect the employer’s industry.
* Advise on a range of specialist areas, eg fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, etc.
* Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
* Report on health and safety issues and KPIs
* Lead in-house training with managers and employees regarding Health and Safety
You will have excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage your workload with competing priorities and frequent interruptions. Excellent collaboration and influencing skills are needed to be successful in this role, along with interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships.
