Job overview
We are seeking skilled and compassionate individuals to join the new NHS Children and Young People’s Gender Service (London) as Consultant Psychiatrist in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
Post holders will provide leadership and expertise for the NHS Children and Young People’s Gender Service, as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Successful candidates will ensure safety and quality, contribute to service improvement, and work objectively under external scrutiny, focusing on delivering the best care for children and young people, aligned with the service specification.
The post includes clinical leadership, supervision, and support to junior staff, with opportunities for service development and research initiatives.
In line with the Cass Review, we are recruiting for part-time sessions, allowing staff to work across related services within other secondary and tertiary centres, including at least one other clinical specialty.

Main duties of the job
Join the NHS Children and Young People’s Gender Service (London) in Kentish Town, working in a dynamic, multidisciplinary team with strong leadership. We offer attractive packages including:

A new clinical pathway, based on the Cass Review and NHS standards, will be delivered by a multidisciplinary team including paediatricians, mental health practitioners, youth workers, nurses, speech and language therapists, and occupational therapists. Care will be tailored to individual needs, with assessments and a range of interventions including therapy, family therapy, physical health, and mental health support, liaising with local services.

Following the Cass Review, two nationally networked services are being established: the Southern Hub in London, led by Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital, and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust; and the Northern Hub, led by Alder Hey and Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. This role is based in the Southern Hub.

Person specification
Culture and Values

* MRC Psych or equivalent
* CCT or within 6 months of accreditation
* Full GMC Registration & inclusion on Specialist GMC Register
* Section 12(2) and Approved Clinician status (or in progress)
* Higher degree or related qualifications (e.g., MSc, PhD, Psychotherapy diploma)
Training and Experience/Knowledge
* Completion of Higher Psychiatric Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry or equivalent
* Experience with young people in mental health community settings
* Experience in multidisciplinary teamwork and multi-agency partnerships
* Ability to undertake full consultant responsibilities
* Training in therapeutic practices (psychoeducation, CBT, Family Therapy)
* Leadership experience and service development
Skills/Abilities
* Therapeutic skills for complex cases
* Evidence-based practice and understanding of guidelines
* Experience in multidisciplinary settings and safeguarding
* Neurodevelopmental assessments and ICT knowledge
Management and Leadership
* Knowledge of Clinical Governance and quality improvement
