Job Title: Service Manager – Building Maintenance

Pay Rate: £44 per hour Umbrella LTD
The Building Maintenance Service Manager will be responsible for overseeing the compliance, maintenance, and repair of corporate and council-owned buildings (excluding housing). The role involves strategic planning, policy development, budget management, and ensuring high standards of estate and facilities management.
Responsibilities:
1. Lead and support a team of six direct reports in facilities management and contractor oversight.
2. Manage estate health, safety, and compliance across corporate sites.
3. Oversee a revenue budget of £5 million, ensuring cost-effective service delivery.
4. Develop operational strategies aligned with council policies and best practices.
5. Act as a key advisor to senior management on estate and facilities-related matters.
6. Represent the Head of Service at internal, regional, and national forums.
7. Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, health & safety policies, and operational best practices.
8. Manage emergency response and business continuity planning for building maintenance.
Requirements:
1. Strong understanding of Health & Safety, compliance, and building maintenance regulations.
2. Proven experience in facilities and estate management within a large organisation.
3. Budget management experience, particularly in a challenging financial environment.
4. Ability to lead teams, manage stakeholders, and oversee contractor performance.
5. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and report-writing skills.
6. Experience working in a political environment and engaging with elected members.
7. Degree-level education or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
8. A valid UK driving licence is desirable.
