We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, positive and proactive individual to join our team as a GP Assistant.
This is a relatively new role, and the main aim is to support all clinical staff to ensure the smooth running of clinics by undertaking routine administration and clinical tasks, resulting in clinicians being able to focus their time on patient care.
We are seeking a committed and hardworking individual, who has a genuine interest in working with patients and who enjoys contributing to the delivery of high quality health care
The Practice will support continuing education and professional development in the form of study days, the GPA course and in-house training.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will have excellent organisational skills and be able to prioritise their own workload to enable them to meet deadlines effectively.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential and a willingness to build sound professional working relationships with all members of the Practice Team a must.

About us
The Marshside surgery is a small practice located in the north of Southport, on the Marshside industrial estate. The practice is a single-handed GP practice, Dr Caudwell leads the clinical team, comprising of himself, a salaried GP, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, a Practice Nurse, HCA and GP Assistant. Our list is made up of approximately 3,100 patients. We are part of the Southport and Formby primary care network.
The surgery is on a local bus route, and there is plenty of on-site parking.

Job responsibilities
The job responsibilities of the General Practice (GP) Assistant includebut are not limited to:
1. Sorting all clinical post andprioritising for the General Practitoner (GP) in terms of actions.
2. Signposting some post to others such asclinical pharmacist etc.
3. Extracting all information from clinicalletters that needs coding and adding to notes.
4. Arranging appointments, referrals, testsand follow up appointments of patients.
5. Preparing patients prior to going in tosee the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GPappointment.
6. Taking blood pressure, & phlebotomy.
7. Urine dipstick and send off MC&S as appropriate. Inform patients ofnormal results. Escalate abnormal results to relevant clinician/ duty doctor asappropriate.
8. New patient review clinics, aims to meet QOF/LQC targets and carry out necessary medical observations.
9. Completing basic (non-opinion) forms andcore elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insuranceforms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc.
10. Explaining treatment procedures topatients.
11. Helping the GP liaise with outsideagencies, getting an on-call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrangeadmission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s).
12. administration of vaccinations.
13. Contact non-responders to National Bowel Screening Programme.
14. Contact non-responders to Cervical Screening Programme.
15. Assist GP to complete shared care agreement and send out relevant safetynet letter to patients.
16. Complete 2-week rule referrals. Clinicians are expected to complete 2-weekrule referral template for the relevant specialty. GPA will then bookappointment on C&B and complete all the necessary safety net measures.
17. Complete C&B referrals for A&E or ACU by extracting relevantinformation from EMIS notes.
18. Undertake any other additionalduties appropriate to the post as requested.
