Summary
Working as part of the Learning Support Team, assisting classes & students as guided by the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo). The focus is on helping students become more confident and independent by supporting their classroom activities. You will work under the SENCo Lead for Alternative Provision, and report to one of the HLTA's.
Wage
£12,759.50 a year
The wage shown is yearly and the actual pay is pro rata for 39 weeks per year. Minimum of £6.40 per hour for the first year, (£7.55 from April 2025) then NMW for the remaining duration of the apprenticeship.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
* Support students with learning and self regulation.
* Liaise with support team and mainstream teachers concerning lesson content.
* Clarify and adapt subject material and vocabulary for students.
* Monitor and assess the students’ needs.
* Exercise general care and supervision of students during lessons and where necessary, with students requiring assistance in walking around the school site, including break, lunchtimes and departure.
* Provide a secure, caring and enriching environment for the students.
* Support students, including those with Education, Health and Care plans (EHCP) or other vulnerabilities.
* Encourage acceptance and inclusion of all students.
* Have familiarity with all relevant statements of SEND by using page profiles.
* Have familiarity with the needs of key students.
* Help to promote students’ self esteem.
* Contribute to student page profiles and annual reviews.
* Support students with a range of special educational needs in school at the discretion of the SENCo.
* Attend appropriate meetings for staff in accordance with school policy and the annual calendar.
* Ensure that all documentation is consistent with school policy, implemented appropriately and regularly reviewed and improved.
* Cover within the Faculty as appropriate for absent colleagues.
* Act in accordance with school policies and procedures and relevant legislation particularly, in relation to child protection and behaviour management.
* Participate with other team members in the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of learning programmes for individuals and groups of students.
* Participate in the delivery of local and national initiatives, for example, literacy and numeracy priorities.
* Participate in and contribute to staff meetings, faculty meetings and INSET.
* Maintain and develop good working relationships with teachers and other adults involved with each child (e.g. Pastoral Support Staff, Advisors, Educational Psychologist).
* Give general support to school activities.
* Promote the ethos and values of the school particularly the CORE values of courage, optimism, regard and endeavour as attributes we appreciate, demonstrate and develop.
* Undertake professional duties that may be reasonably assigned by the Headteacher.
